Rolex v Tudor

I am lucky to have two Rolex “family watches”

A) a 2005 16200 Datejust and a
B) a 2021 Tudor Blackbay GMT

There are both great everyday watches.

Curious giving the 16 year difference between them whether the newer Tudor is a better built / more robust watch to the older Datejust.

Also curious what the Forum would prefer as an everyday piece?

Having owned both (well a 5 digit DJ of around the same vintage), I do feel like the Tudor is a better built watch, esp the bracelet and clasp.

I'd also prefer the DJ as a daily wearer due to it being more comfortable and more versatile.

I love the DJ (mostly) but I hate roman numerals, I have no idea why.

So the Tudor for me.

I just recently picked up one of each. The Tudor is a Royal 41 and the Rolex an Oyster Perpetual 41. IMHO the OP is definitely of superior quality. The Royal is a nice watch but the bracelet clasp is a bit quirky. Of course it's a third of a price of the Rolex so there shouldn't be a surprise there. The Tudor is also a Day Date with a Sellita movement as opposed to a Rolex or Tudor in house movement. I might also add that with both the Rolex and Tudor movements on their newest watches (your GMT and my OP) there have been issues so I'm really just talking about fit and finish. The Sellita only has a 40 hour power reserve.

Like you I am not mad about the Romans. However this was my late fathers watch so I don't feel able to change the dial.

My wife has a 2020 DJ 31mm with Batons. It is a much crisper watch.

I am going that way... There is a bit of a new watch buzz about the Tudor for me.

But I recently reduced my collection (sold a vintage Patek and Gen 1 VC Overseas chrono) to fund some other family projects and I think the DJ might just be the best daily watch out small collection I have left (I also have a IWC mark xvi)
