Perfect Trifecta: SS Daytona-Style

Inspired by a Daytona-dial-swap thread here a couple of days ago, I took a picture of the perfect SS Daytona Trifecta while visiting the Rolex safety deposit box at my bank today:

3 x 116500LN with black, silver steel (ex black), and white dial.

Hope you like it.

Very nice. I know everyone goes totally ga-ga for the white dial, but personally the black dial always looks like the one to have IMO.

Side by side there's no comparison. You beat Rolex at their own design game with that steel dial. Unreal how beautiful that is.

Love the steel dial, especially that it’s all factory parts. I may put my green dial on oysterflex

Thanks guys! Exactly my thoughts. We are far too used to be in either the black or white camp on the dials. There are more alternatives than what we find in the catalogue.

That's why the steel dial is my absolute favorite as well - unique and beautiful.

The steel is by far the nicest..a fluted TT DJ is better than any of them by far.
And a third the price!

Love it, but just curious, why are you keeping them in a safe deposit box instead of wearing them?

Lol you have to visit your watches only during banking hours. Pretty lame.

Only half as lame as you may think.

I do wear them. I normally keeping 2-3 at home and rotate the rest in and out from the bank box. So except for a couple that are still stickered, they all get wrist time.

But, yes, for the monthly rotation, I have to adhere to bank opening times. It's a small price to pay in terms of inconvenience.

Did Rolex complete this dial swap for you? or was it done by a third party watch maker? Pardon my ignorance, it looks phenomenal none the less

The steel dial looks amazing, but appears smaller than both the white and black dial variants.

That is labor of love to come up with those three, especially the steel dial. Love it Richard.

Rolex would not this switch. I had an independent watchmaker swap out the dials.

But the harder part was to acquire the steel dial from an AD.

And the silver Daytona looks probably smaller because my hand wasn't completely flat when I took the picture. It is the same size as the other two. ;)

I think I posted this before:

Okay, got it. I'm guessing your philosophy is to not keep all of the collection in a single location (to minimize risk of losing all of it in the unfortunate event of a theft/fire/natural disaster/etc)? Also, that steel dial swap is one of the most tasteful mods I've seen.

Exactly. And theft would probably be the most likely one. So the inconvenience of going to the bank once a month is acceptable and I can live with "only" three watches during the month. ;)

Interesting side note: During the high of COVID-19, my bank had restricted the access to the boxes, so I had everything at home for about 6 months. It was fun to rotate them every other day. At least something positively memorable came out of it.
