Rolex in Waikiki Hawaii
I stopped by Waikiki AD. They had 2 watches, both smaller “women’s” watches with gold and diamonds. That is it. There are 4 employees working the boutique. Must be really boring to work there. Meanwhile the Tourneau across the street had: lots of DJ, hulk, Kermit, ceramic black sub, black explorer 2, SD 16600, GMT Batman. All second hand of course. The hulk sold for $22k within 1h of being windowed, the Batman took about 10min at $17k. I’m very content with my 14yo GMT.

Well, you can't be that content. You decided to go into an AD and asked what they had.

Same when we were there last year, almost felt embarrassed for the staff.

I can ID with the barren shelves. It is discouraging though I've been lucky, these were bought from Ben Bridge Ala Moana shopping center and the Rolex Boutique International Market Place Waikiki. Waited a few months for the green (Ben Bridge), a few weeks for the yellow and new Sub (Waikiki) this year . . . actually going down to Waikiki this after noon with a friend who got the call for a Bright Blue OP he had asked for a bit earlier this month.
Talking to the Waikiki staff, they say they get their shipments in and by day's end pretty much everything is sold, either to those waiting or walk in tourists. So they're hurting, but at least still making sales, which as a local, I'm glad to know/see. |

I was at the AD in San Jose this past weekend. 1 watch on display, security guard was stopping people from entering the store most likely telling them no inventory. Weird scene for sure.

The good stuff will go to the locals, the crap will be in the case for the tourists. If you live there, work there, grew up there, then build the relationship and you'll get a watch you want. If you don't, better enjoy the women's watches.

I was at my go to AD about 4 weeks ago. They only had one gents DJ and about 4 ladies DJ. All like you describe, diamonds two tone etc.
Shocking from what I am used to seeing there with many sports models etc. Of course that was 3 years ago. They did have a used Air King, thats it. Tons of Omega and Tudor to choose from though. Takes the fun out of visiting the AD

Same old post - same old message. We're not in 2018 anymore. What don't people get - build the relationship with your local AD then you may have to wait for your watches but you will get looked after and you will no longer be one of these "just popped into an AD and there's no watches - so unfair" people.

Just when I was able to move on from that thread. Now I have feelings again. I'm going back.

I don't think any AD will have watches on the shelf that sell over MSRP, even in HI. Every AD will have a customer or two (dozen) with a long wish list that will be fulfilled before a watch hits the window.

No reason to think HI would be any different than most of the rest of the country.

Got very lucky on my trip to St. Martin. My son was looking for his first Rolex. We drove to Marigot and visited the AD there. Was not expecting much since we tried several ADs in the US and checked Aruba last month as well. Same story… only a few women’s DJ and some Cellini models. This trip however was very different. We walked to the Rolex display at the back of the store and was surprised to find a few DJ41s and some 36s. They had 2 nice TT DJ 41s…both fluted, oyster bracelet. One with a Chocolate dial everose/steel and the other Silver dial , yellow gold / steel. My son was considering the chocolate dial until the SA brought out another two pieces… DJ 41 SS Oyster bracelet smooth bezel Wimbledon dial and a 41TT Everose/Steel Oyster Bracelet, fluted bezel Wimbledon. My son’s eyes lit up since he was looking for the TT Wimbledon dial. He whispers to me…”Dad… that is my grail watch”. Sold!. What an experience. I am so glad I was around to see him make the purchase. Great experience. I was thinking about the SS Wimbledon or the Chocolate however bought 2 Rolex watches within the past year. My next purchase will be a Sub. I hope that the other DJs we left behind will end up with someone who like us will have a memorable story to share.

Follow up
So I stopped by yesterday, 3 days later. No change in the Rolex AD. Tourneau on the other hand sold most of their rolex: 16610 for $9.6k, 116610 for $14k, etc. all they have left is two explorers (36 and 39mm). At least the SA at Rolex were really nice. No “you have to have a relationship” BS speech. I’m trying to buy a watch, not find a life partner for Gods sake. I’m so tired of hearing that snotty line.

It could be worse. You could walk into Ben Bridge Timeworks in Ala Moana where they have maybe a half dozen Rolexes in the display case and get completely ignored by the five employees who were helping two or three customers.
