[UK] Explorer II

I’m planning to make some visits soon to local ADs - there are about half a dozen within an hour of home - to see about getting an Explorer II. I’m not fussy whether it is black or white dial.

Do any UK-based members have any advice on current popularity and availability of this model? Is it still the case that the Explorer is one of the less popular SS watches that Rolex produce?

To clarify I do not have a relationship with any ADs currently so certainly don’t expect to walk out with anything.

Thanks.

From what I can gather they are now in demand. For example the white face is up for about £12k in the grey market and the rrp is just under £7k.
That mark up tells you that it would be unlikely for an AD to give you that watch without purchase history.

I'm picking a black dial new/old stock Explorer II from my AD next week. They were sent two of these from Rolex around the time the new edition came out with instructions to sell them to 'appropriate' customers. I have a good spend history with the AD over the last ten years and was very pleased to be able to purchase this.

The Explorer II is in demand

It might not be as sought after as a Daytona etc but there is still a good demand for them.

The black and white dialled versions look very different on the wrist.

I went for a white dial one as it was too similar looking to my Submariner date in Black.

I wanted some difference for wearing

The Explorer II is in demand, but you will never know for sure until you knock on a few doors. Never say never. As said above, the black and white dial versions could be different watches, such is the difference in aesthetic, although the discontinuation of the phantom hands on the black dial has moved it closer to the Polar.

Apologies for resurrecting this, but can anyone advise what the situation is currently like for the Explorer II 226570?

Is this currently an achievable piece from an AD in the UK with some patience? I would be happy with a black dial as much as I would the polar dial.

Many thanks.

Where in Wales are you?

My AD is in Bath and will take on new customers providing they are local. If you are not far over the bridge you'll be lucky, but you could just squeak it.

I'm actually in North Wales so that is a shame. Nearest AD for me is Chester.

I think Mallory are saying about five years for an Explorer II Polar at the moment.

Ouch! Mind you, it's not likely to be discontinued in the next 5 years, if you can wait that long.
