Quick Cellini question….

I’ve started to gravitate towards the Cellini moon phase. Think its a stunner, and yes there is higher horology in other dress watches, but I like the look of this one. I’ve never seen one in an AD though- is this because they are snaffled up quickly like all other men’s pieces , or not ordered by ADs as they don’t sell quickly? Are they relatively easy to get hands on is what I guess I’m asking! I’d rather have a new piece from the AD if possible than a “used” piece for a whole heap of reasons

Very easy to get. Always a moon phase Cellini in stock and available on Earth.

I very often see them in displays. There are very easy to obtain and if you play your cards right, a ticket to a perhaps more popular watch.

Definitely try it before buying however, the size on the wrist is… surprising I would say.

Interesting- I’ve never seen one in a display or window over the last couple of years! When you say it wears a little surprisingly- in a good or bad way? I’ve got fairly big wrists and comfortably wear BLRO / SD43- is it gonna look small? I guess given it’s a modified oyster case and more refined lugs it should wear well?

Size wise you should be then fine as they wear a bit larger than its size

Cheers for the updates so far, will be visiting a few ADs shortly to see if I’ve missed these!

I was told I was number 6 on the list recently when inquiring. They said the biggest thing is they don’t make as many Cellini in general so hard to say when that call will come. 2018-2019 they were sitting in most AD’s

My AD had 2 last week. They were two out of 4 on display. I think they are very interesting in design and are very elegant. Highly overlooked I think.

I think it depends where your located. I had to wait almost six months for mine. I was told recently theres been more interest in this reference. Lovely piece.

I looked at one and turned it down due to a poorly finished strap.
Second one like that at two different AD.

According to my AD they would sell each one they get. Also this is probably the most interesting Cellini from design and horology standpoint, so I believe the collectors are buying these. If you visit and call around you may find one, but from what I have seen they won't be in the shop long. Seem to be the only Cellini reference holding their value on the secondary market.

Yep, this is why I want one as it would be nice to have a “dress” Rolex from that design/ horology standpoint , although it looks like it could be worn more frequently. I have considered Patek, Lange etc for these are for more specific dress purposes in my eyes.

Ok, quick thread bump here. I’ve found a Cellini Moonphase from AD and am likely going to purchase. Now this is probably a stupid question given the current crazy Rolex market, but has anyone in the recent past managed to get a discount? I’m going to ask cos the worst they can say is no, but any success stories on new Cellinis?
Cheers all

Nope. I bought that beauty myself three months ago and did not get even a penny of discount. As of my AD they were supposed to get two pieces in 2020 but actually got just one, and so far I bought the first one in 2021 (mind you in July!).

If you don’t mind me asking- how much wrist time does it get alongside your other pieces?

Politely ask, see if you can at least get free tax. The MPs are under retail in the open market, I see that a trusted seller here has one unworn for almost 10% under (granted, have to take into account warranty date).

Worst they can say is no, but perhaps they can throw in some freebies for you (case, winder, etc..) Either way best of luck its a beautiful reference.

I don't think any discount, but doesn't hurt to ask. In the current frenzied climate and slow supply of watches sad to say but you probably would be considered lucky to just get the watch, let alone gifts, and consideration for another watch. Good luck.

I called my AD for a Cellini date in RG with silver dial a month ago. There are none in the UK network, so its been ordered direct from Geneva, but they have no idea when it will get here.

I’ve actually started eyeing a few pre-owned ones now because ‘how long is a piece of string’ comes to mind.

Cellini, just like all other references are like unicorns right now.

A BEAUTIFUL watch. I’ve only seen in an AD (Cayman Islands on vacation) the Cellini Date, and wore it around the store for about an hour, while we were buying my girlfriend’s DateJust … wore perfectly on me. I had a hard time walking away from that watch !!

If it was the Moonphase, I would have taken it with me.

Love, Love, LOVE the crescent moon date indicator.

And I’m sure you already know … the Moon on the watch is actually a piece of a real meteorite. Maybe that’s why they’re discontinuing the line … they’ve run out of meteorite !!! I don’t think you can just order more of those … ???

One Warning … buy it if you want it / find it … my AD told me that Rolex is discontinuing the Cellini line, and others herein have confirmed that they have heard the same.

Buy It !!!

I’ll be looking for a post titled … “My New Cellini Moonphase”

Thank you all for your very helpful responses, it’s great getting some perspective on this line of watches from Rolex and some personal experiences!!! I didn’t know they were planning on discontinuing the Cellini- I know they trimmed the range down, but hadn’t heard the discontinuation rumour. Cheers all!

Let us know if your AD confirms the discontinuing news.

I don’t believe anything my AD tells me (!!), but sadly I believe this.

Maybe they’ll replace it with another leather strap Dress Watch … I sure hope so.

How would we know if they ever did discontinue the line … by there not being any in the ADs ???? Lol If that’s the case, I guess they’ve discontinued Submariners, Daytonas, … and are solely in the ladies watch business !!!
