Rolex sunburst vs. flat colors - opinions?
I started out loving all things sunburst but am now starting to appreciate the flat colors a bit more.
My current 'flat color' collection consists of: Smurf Red OP41 White Milgauss White OP 39 (well technically this has an eggshell sheen to it) My only remaining sunburst is now the milgauss GV - not sure if it will stick I've recently traded away the YM 40 blue and blusey, and gifted away the hulk I really hope this is not just a phase for me and I'm going to pendulum swing back to sunburst! I am wondering what the YM 40 rhodium would be like... |

Personally I'm with you on flat colour dials. I've never been much of a fan of sunburst, especially on models with ceramic bezels; I really dislike the contrast between the sunburst of the dial, and the flat of the ceramic.

I generally prefer solid colors to matte or sunburst but there are some exceptions (ex: the olive green dial of the Day-Date)

I love the matte dials like the black dial Milgauss and the SD43. For sunburst I prefer the chocolate and olive green on the DD 40.

Some like skin women, some like heavy women, and some don’t like women. Also tastes change over time.

I prefer glossy and sunburst dials. They are more interesting in my opinion because they play with the light.

Sunburst dials for me when it comes to Rolex. I do have flat dials but only in Tudor.

To me it's on a case by case basis, really depends on the piece and the dial colour. There are flat dials I like (Smurf, OP41s) and others I don't (early 116613LB). Same for sunburst, love the Bluesy 126613LB, don't like the YM40 blue dial nor the Hulk when the sun hits the dial.

I'm exactly the opposite. Love Hulk and YM40 (think it's the best blue sunburst dial in Rolex lineup) but can't stand Bluesy dial. When Bluesy was readily available in the showcases, I intentionally avoided looking at them. Maybe it's because the entire watch itself is too flashy with TT and shiny blue bezel.

Yes. This. Love the solid colors, both gloss & matte, and the sunburst. The matte on the SD43 makes the watch. I love the hulk, but might love it more with a solid green dial. If I could take the GMT style green dial and add it to the LV sub, that would be perfection.

I think I’ve only had one but sometimes I cannot take my eyes off it so I vote for sunburst…

Sunburst just hits differently, especially on the Hulk and the Bluesy. I love those. I also generally prefer gloss dials over matte dials.
