I want a 124270 at retail!

I absolutely love this watch it’s the only newer Rolex that I have any desire to obtain but I refuse to pay almost 50% more than retail. It burns my A__ so bad when I see them listed with the grey dealers with such a ridiculous mark up. I inquired with a couple local ADs and let’s just say I left with a feeling of hopelessness. Anyway if anyone comes across one at list and wants to do a good deed I’m here, lol.

I hope you manage to get one, I just received mine after 10 months of wait (I first put myself in the queue last September for the 39mm) and I love it!

You are going to read very possible story in this forum, but my impression is that the 124270 seems to be one you have some chances to get, so good luck!

Nice watch! Am with you on pricing: not paying silly grey 2-3X prices on new sport models

This model is still obtainable with some wait time. You should stop by your AD once in awhile, when they see your face more often, you will have more chances to get it sooner than later.

Or call/stop by multiple ADs. Based on reports here, the huge Reddit Rolex wait time thread, and my own experience, this is among the most obtainable all-steel Rolexes right now. For some reason, this is the one that first time buyers seem to have a shot at.

Try:

Calling on more than one dealer
Asking friends/family for dealer referral
Rinse and repeat

I'll also add that there seems to be a significant discrepancy in demand market to market and dealer to dealer. Some seem to have no waiting list at all, while one told me theirs is seven or so deep and they've seen one come through (no reason to BS me, as I was wearing mine during the conversation).

I certainly would not lose hope - multiple AD's have told me that demand for the 124270 is not nearly as high as for other sports models. It was very recently released so supply has not been consistent, but after the initial rush of requests are fulfilled, I suspect you'll have an opportunity to secure one. Keep in regular contact with as many AD's as you can

You have several Rolex pieces including a Day-Date, correct? If these were purchased from an AD like Govberg… I’m sure you’ll get an Explorer with no problem.

I have a purchase history with Govberg going back decades, and can't get the time of day from them. My SA retired, but that shouldn't negate my history. I finally started dealing with an AD on the Jersey side and had my Sub in a couple months. So I'd recommend to the OP to venture out of the city and try some of the suburban ADs.

It’s your best shot at getting a stainless Rolex, outside of maybe an airking. You should be able to get one, with a reasonable wait.

You will have to sort else where other than your AD if you really want this and don't want to go grey. IMO
Good Luck.

That is unfortunate. Did you go up the chain and request a meeting with a manager? The manager should assign a new SA who understands your situation and history. Glad you were able to pivot and get your Sub from another dealer.

Not seeing any fantasy or entitlement with this thread. Unlike a Daytona, regular people have a reasonable shot at an Explorer. In fact, perhaps that’s where the OP’s frustration comes from: plenty of stories out there of this being a relatively “gettable” watch.

Most of my watches were purchased privately and the only AD I had a relationship with lost there ability to sell new Rolex’s.

I’ve no interest in purchasing a bunch of watches I won’t wear just to get one I will.

I find it really surprising that a watch like the explorer is sold out and going for a premium. What a crazy world we're living in.

It honestly didn't even occur to me. I assume that my purchase history is online for anyone there to have seen, although I don't know how far back the records go, and to be fair I hadn't bought a watch from them in a few years. Not for lack of trying though.

It’s an impatience premium, not an availability premium (a la GMT, Daytona). I think most dealers have short, or nonexistent waitlist for them and it’s just a question of when they’ll arrive.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I had a conversation with a dealer who said he’d delivered one so far, but has a waitlist of about seven. Compare that to the length of lists for “hot” models…
