New DJ or new Speedy?

Just had a phone call from my AD. The Datejust 36 in Oystersteel and white gold features a bright blue dial and a Jubilee bracelet, has come in. Only benn waiting since June. It now in a quandary as today was going to buy the new omega MOONWATCH PROFESSIONAL, CO‑AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER CHRONOGRAPH 42 MM.

Both classic watches but What would you do?

Man they are so unique in their own right but also wear very differently. Anyway to get a used 40mm speedmaster and new DJ?

Tough call. What else do you have? I’d lean toward the DJ first as it covers more bases. Then take your time and get the Speedy later.

DJ for me any day of the week. The blue dial is stunning, and the 36mm size is timeless.

I went through this last week.

Called in at my AD to look at the new Speedmaster Moonwatch, saying I'd given up on getting a Rolex and she bought out 2 TT DJs and then an SS DJ.

I'd been waiting since June too but wanted smooth bezel, silver dial on an Oyster which is exactly what I walked out with.

I couldn't say no after being given the chance to get what I wanted, may not get another offer, also got me onto the no-date Sub list.

Speedys are everywhere, you can get one later!

Get the DJ now. You can always pick up a speedmaster at another time.

What else do you own or will this be your one watch? If it is your one watch I would go with the DJ. If you are adding it really does depend on what else is in your collection.

I would personally go with the Speedy, but Hesalite.

They couldn't be more different. Which one do you prefer? Which would be more useful to you? I'd take a chrono function over a more traditional design like a DJ, but if I already had one I would swing the other way.

Thanks for the replies. You asked what else I have. Nothing with a date complication and my newest watch is a 14060m sub. Everything else is over 50 years old and spend time sat on the watchmakers bench:
5050 bubble back,
7965 Tudor and
Military issue Hamilton 6bb RAF Chrono

Just want something as a daily no worries wearer.

Buy what you want the most Would personally take the DJ - Its the perfect daily for any occasion and especially with the date complication. Also, you can always pick-up the speedmaster

They are both classic and killer. You'll want them both. Due to the current Rolex supply situation, get the DJ now, Speedy later. Best wishes

What other watches do you have in the collection? Me personally, I value diversity so a manual wind may add that, or a chrono may add that, depending on what you have. I have owned the speedy and used the chrono constantly, but did miss the date. Both watches are icons in their own right so my decision would be based on what each one adds (or duplicates) in your rotation.

Take the DJ. Wear it for a bit. When over it, sell it, and get the Speedy.

Both watches are nice “eternal” ones. But neither watch wise nor L2L wise are they substitutes. I have a 18 cm wrist, and therefore (for me) DJ36 is a pass. DJ41 is a complete other story and closer to 42 mm Speedy. In that comparison I would take the DJ41.

All the best

Speedy and 14060M is a great combination. I prefer the Speedy to the DJ, but if yiubwant both eventually then grab the DJ while you can. If it's either / or I would gobfor the Speedy. Infact, I did!

If it’s down to these two, and the DJ fills a spot, then no question, the DateJust. As much as I like several Omega models, just can’t warm up to the Speedmaster.

I say DJ as it’s a versatile watch. My DJ is my go-to watch for many situations but my next watch purchase will likely be a chrono. I absolutely loved the Speedy Moonwatch when I tried it on. Great proportions.

But you really can’t go wrong with either.

The speedy is the most versatile watch in existence in my opinion. Can be dressed up, down, looks great with literally every 20mm strap in existence. It can be flashy or subdued, depending on the look you’re going for.

The date just is classic and versatile, but not as versatile in my opinion.

I vote speedy.

6 digit datejusts should only be the 41mm variant. My vote is neither.

I wear my DJ36 blue fluted jubilee bracelet with t-shirt and jeans.

It’s not the easiest to find from an AD. And if you requested a model and then turn it down, don’t expect to be that fortunate again.

Personally, I’d take the DJ. (And did). The 36 is timeless in that combination.

My $0.02

Of those two, I’d go for the speedy. It’s just cooler and way more interesting.

I know the 36 DJ is a classic and loved by many, but to me it’s just kind of boring.

As usual, get what YOU love.
