Werid AD request? Asked for card

Q - I called the AD here in Chicago to resize my Batman and they asked me to bring my warranty card in with me.

Is that normal? Are they trying to scope the serial for who sold it to me? They have no idea it was grey.

Seems strange but not sure. Calling another couple to see if I get the request again.

Edit: weird * lol

I would size it myself. Really easy, just need the right tool.

In the world of crazy picky ADs and the ever-increasing control Rolex is trying to keep over its watches, I don't see that as an odd request. Resizing a bracelet is a "service" procedure, albeit super minor.

What's odd is you need to give a kidney to get a sports Rolex from an AD.

I’d like to also but I’m nervous compared to other models I’ve done. Usually not metal and the oyster is a scratch magnet.

Need a test watch to practice haha

My AD prefers me to bring in my card when I (well, my wife) have resized. The AD def. knew that they sold the watch to me/us.

Makes we wonder if they can charge Rolex a fee? In another thread someone said that they don’t charge you the labour of changing oyster flex bracelets if under warranty (kinda makes we want to share one with the Mrs. if true. I realize that many might not charge anyway if they know you/store policy/etc…).

Just tape it up if worried. My first experience adjusting was on the SkyDweller and recently did Sub ND. Buying the right screwdriver is the hard part. All you need to do is gently warm up the band with hairdryer and apply even pressure to loosen. I decided to do my own after my AD/SA scratched up the screw heads on my Hulk few years back :(

Damn, Sky is quite the watch to start on. Haha what tools do you use? It’s interesting about the heat up thing. Second time I’ve heard it and a few others said it was silly in one my posts.

Are the tools Bergeon by any chance?

Aaaaaand now I’m scared to let the AD do it. Thanks for that. Hahahaha

Yes - indeed weird. Like others have said, you can resize your bracelet with proper tools.

I had a little bit of a different situation, I purchased white dial Daytona in the beginning of the year with my usual Miami AD, the one I bought from for the past few years. About few weeks after the purchase I got a call from my rep with request to bring back the warranty card. That was very weird, I was never asked that before. I asked why and they said that they made some kind of mistake with warranty and there’s no need to worry they just needed to check something. Next day I got the the card, they gave it back to me and that was it.

Perhaps just wanting to make sure it’s genuine, since there are some pretty good fakes these days?

Also, never have anybody but watchmaker/tech do the sizing. Which Chicago AD are you taking it to, city or suburbs?

Rolex on Michigan (city). Being impatient going to the CD Peacock Schaumburg or the Rolex in Oakbrook.

Clever AD tactic on many levels (and the reasons should be reasonably apparent).

Couldn’t get the Bergeon so got a hollow ground 1.6 mm from eBay. I heat up the bracelet so it helps loosen the loctite that’s applied to the screws. I think it helps with the removal.

This is the screwdriver I got several years ago.

Exactly it's very simple to do with the correct size screwdriver.

1.4/5 mm screw driver is all you need.

Next move is gonna be requesting the cards for RSCs centers.

Naw.

That would impact revenue.

They don’t care if you’re going to be paying.

Probably kill any transfer of warranty if that’s not been done already.

Anyway you spell weird, that is very strange. I just don’t get what Rolex’s participation in all these strange AD behaviors is. When you go to a Porsche dealer anywhere in The US for service, the training and protocols are pretty much the same?!

Could be. In any event, who cares? It's not like they are asking for a blood sample. In WIS world everything is odd, when you think about it.

Rolex bracelets are well engineered, they are easy to work on with the right tools, good light and a little care. I've done two Sky Dwellers, a Sub, a Polar and other brands including Breitling, Omega, Bamford and Tag Heuer. The trickiest one to do was a Seiko which had push pins plus a collar insert. Any Rolex is easy compared to that micro surgery.

First off, you’re replying to a wrong person and 1.4 mm is too small for oyster.

I’ve had links taken out at 2 different AD’s in NY (a notoriously picky place given everything). Took the watch out of a case that clearly showed the watch wasn’t purchased at the AD. No questions asked and no fee charged.

Put the screw heads under a microscope and take a pic and post it, haha.
I think the correct size is 1.7 mm.
