Mid Sizes?

I'm confused as a lover and owner of the mid-size Rolex I was wondering why the 35 and 37mm YM's are seen as a womans watch yet a 36mm DJ and Explorer is popular for for men?

Size is whatever you have been stereo typed into thinking, regarding what some call women's or men's watches.

Normally most people preferred bigger size for sport models.

Watches are no gender so wear whatever you like.

it's just how company's market their brands and how consumers respond. especially in situations where there are multiple sizes within a particular line. the smaller YMs and DJs within the total YM or DJ range are typically designed for, preferred by, and worn by women. And the larger ones typically chosen by men. the "mid sizes" just give more people more choices.

Ironically, I think the YM35 was intended as unisex, as back then it was truly “midsize” (with 40 above and 29 below).

These days I think it’s a function of marketing. Nothing to say those smaller YMs aren’t for anyone who wants a smaller YM. Same with OP34 (which I think is marketed as “women’s” but I sought diligently and wear happily). Only potential issue to consider on the YM is dial size, since it’ll be smaller than a DJ36 due to the bezel.

When I was young I had really slim wrists, I bought a SS Sub as my first Rolex and it was far too big, I kept it but bought a 31mm Datejust for everyday work, I ended up with two of them like you do. They were pretty inexpensive at the time at well under 2k. I sold them on as I got older and my wrists filled out a little, I think they were £1200. I walked past one of the UK's most famous vintage Rolex dealers in London recently (they wrote a book) and to my amazement they had one identical in the window for £9k...!! I looked on their website and they have a couple listed as 'Super rare and desirable' Yes....unless I have one to sell lol.

Just the 37. Based on marketing. Only one I’d truly consider “women’s” is the old 29mm. That was pretty small. But in all honesty, some of the older model 40mm PM versions, with rubies on the dials, looked more feminine to me. Even the 37, especially RG on OF, is very much gender neutral.
