Would a grey dealer laugh at this proposal?
2019 Bluesy
2020 Rootbeer 2021 DJ 41/Blue stick dial/fluted/Jubilee even trade for a RG DD40 Chocolate Roman dial. Is the value of my watches close enough for an even trade? DavidSW has an Unworn one for $47875 I have always loved the DD40, always wanted one, but I guess I just never had that much money in my pocket at once to just go out and buy one. So I went with watches I also liked and could afford and was lucky to purchase all of them new from my AD. My grail of course would be the same DD40 with the Olive dial, but that's out of reach for me and the chocolate dial has really grown on me. I have been promised a Pepsi by my AD for some time next year, so that would replace my DJ41 as my daily watch if I were to do the deal with the DD40, but I am wondering that if I trade all my current watches in, will that have a negative effect on my purchase history with my AD that would reduce the chances of getting a Pepsi? I would definitely miss my 3 current watches, but then again, I could always repurchase them in the future? This is a crazy Hobby, one hell of a rabbit hole! Thanks for any input!

It never hurts to ask them. I have bought several watches from Davidsw. He buys low and sells high. But if I were you, I would email him with what you have, send pictures of them and see what he offers. I do not think those 3 alone will get you to an even trade though. The prices he will offer will probably be about $3k-$4K less then he could resell them from. Good luck on your hunt to acquire your chosen watch!

You might need to add some cash.

I don’t think grey dealer will laugh at any proposal. They are all open to any opportunity that will come their way. So go ahead, make your day!

Ask away. It’s not a laughable proposal but expect a counter with some cash coming from you as well.

In that case, the trade is definitely not worth it in my opinion.

You'll definitely have to add cash ($8-9K sounds right) to the deal to get the DD and agree that it's not worth it.
Can you source the DD at retail from your AD? That would avoid having to add cash on top. |

As of my conversation with my SA yesterday, they can't order any new watches until next year, not even YG DD40s. I think I am just going to be patient and see what happens, I have never gone grey before and only dealt with this same AD. I know.....patience over instant gratification....that deal would only be good if it was even trade or maybe 1-2k.

2020 Rootbeer 2021 DJ 41/Blue stick dial/fluted/Jubilee For RG DD40 Chocolate Roman dial Personally I would never do this trade. Those 3 watches you have OP are really nice. I would just wait for the DD at an AD.

I don't think a grey dealer would laugh at this.
In my part of the world, assuming your watches are in very good condition, I'd reckon you would need to add around 5K euro for that DD40 BNIB. I happen to have the same DD you are after. Currently it is with a RSC for a dial change to olive green. I also had the same config DJ41 and Rootbeer but I moved them on. The DD is simply awesome and the chocolate dial is every bit as nice as the olive green. If I were in your position, I would first ask my AD for the DD. If they cannot order it, then I would think of trade in or first sell then buy. You would get better prices. Whether that would limit your chances for a Pepsi, it really depends on your relationship with your AD. |

To get the most of anything you are selling it's best to sell it yourself or just be okay leaving 20% on the table...

Don't do it. I would wait and purchase from the AD that promised you the pepsi or sell each watch separately. You'll get a much better return that trade in

I don't think you're very close but it doesn't hurt to try. I think trade-in values with grey's tend to be lower than many here think - especially with DavidSW who has the market share to buy low and sell high.

You should work out what your 3 are going for on the grey market and if they total more than his DD pricing then he’ll probably consider it. The more over the more likely as he’ll already have a nice profit on the DD anyway. More to the point you need to work out if it’s a good deal for you.

Got a little insight into how they price by having a chat with one recently..
He bought a watch with an RRP of £11K for £20K and sold it for £30K (bricks and mortar store with strong online presence).

Buy low, sell high...
This is a brick and mortar with overhead costs...you will surely not get the market value for your watches and will pay a premium for whatever you are buying. Basically operates as a car dealership but is less transparent with their charges. You will be leaving money on the table but the convenience factor may justify it...subjective to you! |

Buy the DD and then sell them on your own if you’re able to. Otherwise you’re probably going to lose $4k on the trade. Dealer is going to bake in some margin on the trade, so you’re losing that each time on three watches.
