20 years with my 2001 Submariner Date 16610

Just wanted to share some pics of my 2001 Submariner 16610 I got 20 years ago in Sept. This has the holes case/Solid end links/ flat 4 insert and the interesting font you rarely see which people call it flat S in the word submariner (well the whole word is flat font) ... Anyways I have never polished it or serviced it..Yes some people are going to chew my head for that lol... The first 15 years I rarely wore it, only on special occasions and really never wore watches at that time... The last 5 years it's been my daily ever since, unless I'm fixing things or other chores which I wear a casio to bang up, but it's on my wrist everyday after I'm done that day... The watch has been running +2.5 to +3 seconds a day for 5 years, but the last 3 months which is interesting has been consistent on +1.7 seconds a day... As you see barely any stretch, I do wear it tight and clean it at least twice a month since I wore it daily..

Anyways here are pics of everything I still have since I bought it and everything is dated Sept 2001. The original brochure with pics of the history/ movement/ bracelet and watches... Original suggested retail price catalog (Look at the prices back then) ... All the accessories like the inner and outer box/ original papers serialized to the watch/ all three booklets/ calendar/hang tag/ red seal/ anchor/ bezel plastic protector/ clear caseback sticker which you can see the 16610 and also the green hologram sticker still on my caseback I never removed which faded and slightly see the 16610 in a certain light... Also a quirky thing what rolex did back in the day, they had a green paper measuring tape they would put around your wrist and cut to size and that's how they would know how many links to take off lol.. I never used the measuring paper, I told them I'll remove the links when I get home so I kept it intact... Well thank you for your time, enjoy..

Yeah, look at the prices! Then remember that this was only the suggested price. 10% off was standard at the AD and over on Pacific Time and Atlantic Time (the two largest greys but owned by the same guy who then started Swiss Wrist) you could get the Explorer 1 for $2,750 and the Sub date for $3,150 with no sales tax and free FedEx overnight. They had the 14060 sub for around $3,000.

I have a Rolex from 2000 and I also really appreciate the time I’ve spent with it. It’s so great you’ve kept all those materials. I will have to dig out my box and see what I have. Thanks for posting OP…

Great post and exceptional set you have there!! I never knew things like flat 4 insert was a thing with 5 digit references, so thanks for the knowledge as well.

Wow it is a beautiful 16610 and in an amazing condition! Please never polish it!
I bought my 16610 brand new from AD in 2009 (SEL, engraved rehaut, no lug holes, M Serial) and it used to be my daily beater for many many years! Such a nice and iconic watch!!

Congratulations on owning and wearing your watch for so long which is seldom seen today, but please remove the case back sticker and if possible think about getting your watch serviced. Picture below of my own working tool watch 16600 SD watch worn almost daily for over 20 years. But used as a working tool for many years underwater, its been serviced and polished by 3 different RSC world wide. And many today say that the 5 series watches with there so called by some tuna tin clasps, and so called hollow link bracelets, are not as tough as the 6 series.

Love it. I started collecting in 2001 with a Tag Heuer which I gave to my step son for his 18th.
These watches are fantastic. I would give her a service though, she deserves a day at the spa!
