I think I am going backwards

An interesting situation I found myself in!
I started my watch journey with a quartz watch than moved on to some cheaper and affordable automatic watches like a Seiko or Orient or such and it went up from there, Tissot, Hamilton/Longines and Tag/Breitling….. you get idea.
Well, now I am going backwards. Don’t get me wrong, my Rolex, Omega watches, Zenith El-Primero, Carrera, Snowflake are not going anywhere, but my last 5 watches were Tissot PRX automatic, Hamilton Khaky Murph, Seiko Presage, Orient Bambino, Seagull 1963.
Isn’t this funny?
I made a full circle, basically right back where I started!
I just thought that was an interesting observation and wanted to share it with other enthusiasts.

That’s totally fine. Buy what appeals to you! There are some “inexpensive” watches that will bring you more joy than real expensive ones
Put the Internet hype aside and buy/wear what you like.

After buying a number of rolex, I found myself real drawn to some seiko pieces ($200-$500 range) which to me are awesome pieces that I enjoy as much as my most expensive watch!

Those are super practical watches. I’m thinking about a presage for when I’m dressed up but don’t want to be pretentious. And the same could be said for the bambino. And the seagul has such an awesome case back! And. Great chrono, and very unique. The Hamilton and tiasot and just very nice watches.

I really like it, a lot.
One thing to consider, it wears larger than you might think. However, I have large wrist, and it fits me perfect. Certainly not for smaller then 7”.
The finishing of the case and dial really look nice and bracelet is very comfortable. I don’t like butterfly clasp though and it has no micro adjustments.
Overall, lots of watch for $550 (650 retail), after discount from my AD.

You keep buying watches that interest you regardless of brand or cost. Truly this is going forward as a watch collector.

I think its good to have a few Seiko, Timex, Cadissen, Armitron watches lying around as beaters or if you are heading to an iffy locale.
If you can stand it-that $20 digital Casio they build as the best selling watch in the world can't be beat!

I have the Rolexes I really want. Now I'm looking at some watches that are inexpensive, can get beat up and are a style I like (and consider "fun" but not something I'd want to "invest" in). Been looking at Timex, Tissot, Hamilton, Glycine.

Of course, for the sake of sport I'm looking for some that are discontinued, well below MSRP, or both.

Well, I can somewhat relate. After a Bluesy 41mm and a WG VC Patrimony, I've been looking at adding a 60 bucks Casio G-Shock. It reminded me of a Casio I proudly wore when I was a young teenager.

I've discovered that price has little to no bearing on how much I enjoy a watch. My Last watch purchase was a Sinn UX and I love it.

I have a very similar post to this recently, as I was curious how many people “go backwards”. I worked my up to Rolex. Currently have a TT skyD and I just purchased an Omega Seamaster 44 and after a bulova lunar pilot moonwatch. I’m seriously enjoying the bulova just as much as my Rolex.

The big disadvantage of cheaper/non-Rolex watches is that their value drops like a stone after you buy them. I’m that sense a collection of cheaper watches actually costs more.

Past year or so, picked up SARB033 and Oceanus. Love them and feel no need to wear Rolex, GS or Tudor over them.

Price has no bearing on a true watch collector. A true enthusiast I've always thought, Obtains pieces the interest them. I have had and still have, What some call lesser brands. As long as it's a quality watch and I like it is all that counts.

Never played the " keeping up with the Jone's" or investment games. Actually can't stand it and often find it humorous. Some are more concerned about what other people think of there choice or need help deciding on a color .

A true enthusiast only asked there self if they like it, and know what they like when they see. Could care less what others think or what it will be worth in the future.

Like the PRX myself, Seen a ad this morning on TV. Interesting.

I used to love Rolex. I still really like models from a few years back, but nowhere near as many of the current watches excite me. I don't mind larger watches but I think some of the newer Rolex watches just look bloated. I think the feel of the brand has changed over the years. It's aiming at a different market.

Recently discovered Certina and I really like the brand. Historically interesting with some great watches at fantastic prices.

The PH500M I'm wearing now is a great example. A modern version of a historically significant watch (related to my birth year) which is built like a tank, has an 80 hour power reserve and a locking bezel.

A real tool watch with providence for under £800. It sits very comfortably with my 14060M Sub and my Speedmaster Moonwatch.

Finding them on the pre-owned market is the way to go. The problem may be there are not many for sale as the used wholesale value is so low, it is not worth selling them.

Since I got my first Rolex a few months ago I have worn pretty much nothing else. I got a Bulova Lunar Pilot a week or two ago and have worn it a few times. I also got a 1960s Gruen Precision 510 I am wearing today. So, ultimately I am beginning to rotate a little bit around with what watch I am wearing.

Still want to find a vintage Omega.

Rolex is just a bit odd like that

Until the recent stupidity the SS models held value well as they barely changed and the new prices kept going up.

PM prices used to plummet
