Exhibition models drivingdemand even higher
So when I visited my AD about my squeaky bracelet (see other thread), obviously the discussion turned to some of the other pieces I am currently waiting for.
As I am sure many of you who have visited an AD recently will have seen, the windows are now filled with the desirable models that are exhibition only. Which I guess makes sense since I had seen loads of ADs with almost completely empty displays which does not look good. However the SA said that giving people the opportunity to try these pieces on has driven demand even higher and their waitlists have nearly quadrupled! I asked if this would have a knock on effect on the times I had originally been quoted for some of the pieces I was after and I was told it probably would |

I was in London last week & there’s a Rolex AD round the corner from the Burlington Arcade. It had every model in the window but listed as exhibition only. Ridiculous

I passed by an AD in Covent Garden yesterday one of the Rolex window case was empty and apologising for nothing to show. Haha.
The interesting thing was I saw a " late teen" checking on the Rolex AD display window yesterday and talked a lot about the sought-after models with his dad. Interesting. I also saw another early 20s in a gray dealer shop looking into his Batman. So many interesting things can be seen lately |

When and a big when Rolex stop being nothing more than ££$$€€ object things to be bought and sold to the highest payer then perhaps we could get back to normal.

Until interest rates go up meaningfully, Rolex watches will continue to be stores of value (or ££££$$$$€€€€ objects as Padi56 puts it).

Not surprised. Rolex is the only watch brand that the actual pieces look significantly better than they do in photo. Any other brands, can’t say the same.

I think it's a good thing that Rolex are putting exhibition models in their ADs, at least new, serious potential buyers get to try them on the wrist as opposed to complete empty cases. I don't think these samples would affect demand too significantly.

Things are definitely weird. Several years ago only a small percentage of people who were making multiple-six figure incomes saw the value of buying a Rolex when the entry point was 6,000.00. Now people buy multiple watches they can barely afford. It’s very strange indeed.
