My visit to Bucherers, Bahnhofstrasse, 10/13

On the final day of my Swiss trip I decided to stop in at Bucherers in Zürich to look around. The layout of the main Rolex boutique on the ground floor was interesting. The display area was in the middle of the room with a few window cases around the outside. Around the cases there were about 10-12 glass cubes ~20cm on a side of 1 cm glass with one watch in each. Nothing but gold and diamonds. I was told there was another Rolex display area on the fifth floor. The employees fell all over themselves to be polite even reaching into the elevator to push the button. This display area was much more casual and inviting than the main floor. Sofas and an amazing library of Rolex related books. I told the salesman that where I live in Ohio the closest AD is about 75 km away and I never get to see the models in person. I asked if they at least had an exhibition version of a Submariner I could try on to see and feel the weight on my wrist. He goes in the back and brings out a real working model. The watch was completely encased in clear shrink wrap plastic. Even the crystal was covered. With the plastic wrap it reminded me of Canal St. clone I bought 25 years ago. It also didn’t help that my mask was causing my glasses to steam up. He was not very talkative so I showed him pictures of my 45 year old vintage pieces. He looked at the 5513 and said “A two liner!” What was the extent of his conversation. I asked one more time if the Submariner was for sale. Got a bottle of water and stayed for about 20 minutes looking through their library and left. While I was enjoying my water a fellow with his wife and son sit down next to me. Within ten minutes the guy ordered a Day-Date and left. Where was a really neat Rolex angled desk clock on the counter I would have loved to own. I did get the latest catalog book (in German). Unfortunately, I had to carry it home.

On my way out of the country yesterday I stopped at the Bucherers Rolex boutique at the Zürich airport. Nothing but a few gold and diamond watches way above my budget. There was one saleswoman there. She tried to interest me in a gold Sky-Master. I passed. No one was within 100 ft. of the store. It must be extremely boring.

Sorry for my bad English, so did you get your Sub eventually? Zurich store was so great to I used to get all the hot models before the hype. Now they only sell to the locals, not tourists, so nothing I can get from them now.

So I guess no sub OP? Big bummer to have the pull out a shrink-wrapped watch and not sell it to you.

No Sub. When I walked out of that store my next visit might be a year from now. When I visited the airport store at least the lady offered to put me on a list of my preferences. I declined and told her I won't be back for a year.

Pretty sad state of affairs.
