Yeah. Because of its high price; unconventional looks and size, it’s really for a certain niche of wearers. I have a 7.75 in wrist and can pull it off and/or a ceramic sub.

Saw one in the flesh, a young work colleague had the RG TT. There were quite a few things I didn't like about it, but I didn't say a word of course, other than "nice watch". He didn't feel comfortable talking about it, although I was discreet and there was no one else around us. I showed him what I was wearing that day, a YM 116622, he didn't really care. He was apologetic about his, a graduation present from his parents. Hid it under his cuff, end of story. Anyway, the YMII is interesting, quirky with a unique complication, but I didn't like the looks. Having said that, I'm glad these watches exist, otherwise we would all be wearing Submariners and things would get boring very quickly.

I have always loved the YMII because it’s so outside the typical Rolex design. It is a masterpiece movement and was never targeted to the mainstream Rolex buyer. The SS YMII wears closer to a Sub because it has the organic case design like a Daytona. It’s relatively thin and it’s wide flat caseback spreads it’s weight better than a diver. It wears a lot smaller than a DSSD but so many want to just look at that 44mm size. I say go for it.

I’m just torn and think the sub is classier and more versatile, but…all of that gold…

I came 360 with the YM2. Started fascinated by the dial and color contrast then I have to admit I was affected by the negative comments on the Internet which I then realized are stemming out of lack of understanding of the complexity and beauty of that marvelous timepiece
I was so glad to finally add it to my collection and like you, I have all the mainstream “hyped” Rolex models from the GMTs with all its color combination, the SS Daytonas, subs, skydweller…. Etc and honestly get the most joy out of my YM2

The thing about the YM 40, is that, it's just a great looking watch. Class, understated. The name is just a name. Much better alternative to a Sub. It's more dressy, and you won't run into an auntie at the wet market wearing the same watch.

The YMII is way too loud, and way too pretentious to wear, unless I really were a master of yachts. It's by far the loudest Rolex there is.

Before picking a YG YM-II, you ought to look at the WG one. If you like gold, it has the most of any YM-II due to the WG bezel.

I think it takes the “Clown” out of its deriders.
