Trading up AP RO Chrono for Platinum Day Date
I own an AP Royal Oak 38mm SS chrono 26315. I do like it, but don’t love it as much as my 15500.
I have been dreaming about the ice blue platinum day date 40. Now that the SS AP secondary prices have gone through the roof, I’m thinking about trading up. I have an offer for a little over $50k for my AP. I know they are very different watches, but wanted to get some thoughts from you veterans out there! My wife, who isn’t a watch person, thinks it’s a bad idea, comparing this to trading a regular Hermes bag for an alligator Kwanpen. Do you think it’s a good idea? Any thoughts on long term value of the two? Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

i would do it, plat day date premiums aren't too crazy right now (like 15% or so? last i checked) so you get to take advantage of crazy premiums and get your grail

I would rather the Plat DD40 100000x times
I'd do this within a heartbeat. |

I'm not a massive fan of DD in general but I can see this one complimenting your collection nicely

The DD looks like 100000x better than the RO IMHO, so I definitely would do this.

I would do it, love the Rolex design and look much more than any AP. But that’s me, do what makes you smile the most. Cheers, Tim

I don’t like the date window on the AP chrono, so I’d do it. But while I love the dials of the platinum watches, I prefer the “warmth” of Rolex’s white gold myself. So I’d probably see if I could get a meteorite WG DD40 if I were you (assuming that you like “white” metals here). None of this means it makes sense financially though. I have no idea what the future predicted value of one vs the other would be.

Thank you all for your guidance.
Regarding long term value of plat DD, have they held up well in the past? I’m not too familiar with platinum and DDs. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’ll take any DD over your AP.

Agreed, I just don't like ROs at all.
But, I do think your wife is technically right

You’ll get different answers on this forum and AP forum. I have the 26315 and had the platinum dd40. Both have a different feel to them. The AP looks more unique and feels more delicate (meaning I’m more careful not to get scratches on the finely brushed surfaces). The platinum dd40 can be a one and only watch. I loved the heft, look and it feels more robust. I would do the trade if you’re not in love with the AP.

I'd do it. You have another AP that you prefer and the plat DD what you've been dreaming of. Take the jump!! Would be a great combo with the 15500.

I like Platinum Day-Date more than ROC 26315ST, but I like ROC 26315OR with full RG bracelet more than Platinum Day-Date.

A biased vote. You already have a AP you like better and would be capitalizing on the market increase. Sounds like a win-win.

I agree. The DD is much more conservative and common. The ROC is younger and unique. I bet many of those bashing it have never worn an AP in person. I've worn both and personally would stick with the ROC. I do like the DD but I feel it lacks personality. Most people cross shopping don't usually include these two models.
