Tudor quality concerns

Over the last 5 years I have purchased four Tudors.
A Black Bay Heritage (Burgundy), a blue Pelagos, a Black Bay GMT and most recently (2020) a Black Bay 58 (blue).

So as you can tell, I'm a bit of a Tudor fan.

But my fondness for the brand is beginning to wane somewhat due to the fact I've had to send two of my four Tudors back for repair, and both with 'date issues'. Sadly, my Black Bay GMT developed the infamous date issue and I was without it for about 3 months whilst it was fixed under warranty by Tudor. Touch wood it has been OK since.

But my real issue with Tudor is now because of a problem with my Pelagos, purchased new from an AD in Oct 2017. I have a date setting issue with it. Essentially, when the watch winds down and one has to wind it to get it going again, the crown position to set the date does not engage and the date cannot be set. Even now when the watch is fully wound, the date cannot be set. So it has gone back to my AD who have sent it back to Tudor.

I have been sent a repair estimate from my AD as the watch is out of warranty and they say that it is due a routine service which will correct the date issue. This will cost me £240.00. The watch is barely 4 years old and not routinely worn.

So what with this, and the GMT date issue, I'm dubious of Tudor quality now, especially with date complications!

Shame, as it has kind of put me off the brand now.

PS - I've asked my AD to pass on my dissatisfaction to Tudor for what that's worth.

I sent my BB58 in because the lume pip just randomly fell out leaving a hole in the bezel. I don't know if I'll ever get the watch back it's been months and I haven't heard anything.

I've owned multiple Tudors, including the ones you listed and have never had any issues. All running consistently, accurately, and flawlessly.

Sorry to hear this. My BB41 has been nothing but reliable since owning it. Love putting it through the ringer.

My BB58 has been fine since Nov '20 but my BB36 stopped completely 10 days after purchase.

It took 13 weeks to come back from Rolex.

I was able to reject it as it was proven faulty within 6 months of purchase, the refund went towards a 36mm DJ.

Does Tudor not have 5 year warranty like Rolex?

Things happen, that's what warranties are for. These (and Rolex) are masses produced watches and failures and quality control lapses will happen from time to time. It wouldn't prevent me from buying them in the future.

Sorry to hear of these issues. My Tudor is fine, but I also purposely bought one without the date complication and not a chronometer.

Speaking of which, I once bought a brand new Speedmaster that failed within minutes of my ownership. Turns out that it literally had a screw loose, which fell into the movement.

They fixed it under warranty, no issues there, but it just goes to show you that stuff happens even with the finest watches. Including Rolex.

5 year warranty only started about two years ago, not for 2017 watch.

I don't understand why they are having such an issue with the date function. This is such a simple and time tested feature used by just about every manufacturer . How have they not perfected this?

I purchased a Blue Pelagos three years ago. The Lume on the bezel fell out during transit. I returned the watch. I almost pulled the trigger on a BB58 a few weeks ago, but decided not to proceed.

Tudor quality concerns

That must be frustrating. I own multiple generations of Tudor and can’t say the same. In fact, I get more excited about new Tudor releases than Rolex. Never did get a Tudor GMT since it’s too similar to my BLRO but may add one in the future regardless of the anecdotal reports on here

I currently own a Pelogos, a GMT, and a BB58 blue and so far I haven’t had an issue with any of them.

I thought for sure that you had the date wheel issue on your GMT and after it was fixed under warranty it has run perfectly ever since. Am I confusing you with someone else? I remember reading it over on WUS...

Nope, not me. Purchased mine in early 2019, it's been flawless from day one, and my most worn watch.

So it's cost you 40 a year then? I'd like to know how much youve paid in maintenance costs on your car? 260 after 4 years is trivial...

I don't think that that is a very good analogy, but I do agree with the point that sometimes, things break and need repair and that with an interval that is not inconsistent with that of a service, the price is bearable.

I love my Tudors all of which have functioned flawlessly.

I'm wearing this vintage "Big Rose" today.

That watch is a beauty.

I have a dozen or so modern and vintage Tudors. Never an issue with any of them.

How were you able to reject it? Is there a lemon law in your area? some sort of consumer protection law? Store policy? Credit card protection?

Yes, but not back in 2017. I think it was changed in 2019?

I've had 7 Tudors and 4 "incidents."

3 pips were pushed in. Once on the BB 79220R, and Twice on the BB58 LN - fixed under warranty at Tudor.

And the Ranger was running really really slow - like one minute slow. The watchmaker CW21 at the AD regulated it without sending it back and now it runs fine. It's not COSC, but it's close.

I never had the date wheel issue of GMT.

Overall, I'm satisfied.

It's UK consumer protection law.

If the product has a fault within 30 days, a refund can be claimed.

WOS sent it to Rolex to confirm the fault and then I rejected it.

This works up to 6 months after purchase, after 30 days the retailer has the right to attempt one repair before a refund can be claimed.

You are in the wrong game if 240 bucks after 4 years offends you. Get out now.

Maybe you should save up for nicer and better quality brands if you are looking for better quality. Tudor is a low luxury brand, and 240 bucks to fix an out of warranty watch soulds pretty cheap

If all your Tudor’s came from the same AD, I’d try asking them to split the repair cost- nothing to lose by asking. Sorry to hear of your issues, but I’ve really not heard of problems with the Pelagos before. GMT? Sure.
