Possible trade - need advice

Hello users, collectors and (Rolex) watch addicts!

I am thinking about possibly trading in two of my watches. A mint 2021 Explorer II black dial ref. 226570, plus a fully stickered and unworn 2016 116710BLNR for a 126710BLRO (jubilee bracelet) and a $4000 extra payout from the dealer.
What are your thoughts on this deal? Would you consider it?
All opinions are warmly welcome.

Thank´s!

John

Wondering: is that $4k balancing out to make the fair market value equal when tallying the two vs the one? If so, I would say it’s a fair trade if you want the BLRO that bad and don’t want the other two anymore

If the market value of the two vs the one plus $4k is not equal or in your favor then you’re getting ripped off

Well, I would "loose" about $2200 compared to if I sold them at current market value to a private buyer. But, probably like some of you, I consider it very tiresome to sell privately. He´s a dealer, and like all of them he is going to try to make money on those two watches.

Hi Farsh14,

well, compared to selling them privately, which can be very tiresome and frustrating as many of you might know, I would "loose" about $2200.

If you’re losing on the deal I would pass or negotiate it down to the fair market value

I would rather keep what you have, BLNR is as good as BLRO.

Explorer II is gorgeous timepiece to have, it's better than getting extra $4000.

Every time you trade, the dealer make money on you.

Possible trade - need advice

You will never get fair market value from a dealer - they need to make money too. Benefits are: no scam, no stress, no tire kickers, quick payment.

If you want that watch so much - go for it. Get rid of that safe queen and wear watches you want to wear.

Cheers!

I think you’re on the losing end by quite a bit. Keep the Expl II

Offer a GMT for GMT deal to see what that dealer will ask for in cash. Then, and only then, will you know what you’re losing on that Expl II.

Expl II’s are going for 5 digits now at dealers.

You need to first ask yourself, what's wrong with the the blnr you have and why are you not wearing it. And will the blro actually fill the void or is it just a want.

Yes the "Pepsi" is cool but hands down the "Batman" is just as good if not better and I have both. Get a jubilee band for ithe "Batman" to switch it up.

Don't trade two great watches for one great watch. Only because of a different color bezel and bracelet. Your going to kick yourself in the end.

i think its a fair trade if the blro is in BNIB condition, would go for it if i were you.
imho the pepsi is a level up compare with the blnr, and the jubilee bracelet is sexy and comfortable to wear.

Do you have a good AD relationship? If so, ask about getting on BLRO list and offer to trade your BLNR for it straight up. Your AD will probably make close to $10,000 on it, you'll have a brand new one with warranty in your name, and compared to your proposed trade, you won't have given up your Explorer II for $4,000.

Thank you so much for the replies so far guys, I appreciate your view.
I am aware that the Batman (the new reference even more so) and the Pepsi are essentially the same watch. Heck, my Explorer II has the same movement as the 126570
But as most of you guys know, this hobby isn’t really about being rational.
It’s basically all emotions.
If I were in the position to get a Pepsi from my AD, I wouldn’t even think about trading two of my watches for it.
I’ve seen and handled the Pepsi a few times, and though I think it is somewhat „special“, I personally wasn’t really blown away by it. I guess the hype and „hard to get“ status amplify the fact of wanting one.
It might seem odd to you for me saying this, but I actually think the Batman‘s color combination is more aesthetically pleasing

Perhaps approach an AD about a trade. They may consider the option attractive, as they basically get to sell a brand new watch at 2x MSRP without violating any Rolex rules (they offer you the price of a new Pepsi in exchange for the Batman, then turn around and sell the used Batman at market rate). Everybody wins.

+1 If the BLRO is what you're after, then this makes good sense. Best wishes

Two Rolex watches are better than one. In the world of Rolex $4,000 is an insignificant sum.

Sure, it’s definitely not the $4000 I’m after.
And yes, materially speaking two of them are of course better

if you like the BLNR better, why are you considering trading 2 for 1, for a watch you do not like as much?

Yeah. OPs further explanation makes this trade sound like even less of a good idea. Not sure why it's being considered....

may be OP is asking people's opinion in terms of investment strategy. if its a good investment OP will do the trade even he likes the blnr and explorer more.

It might be the fear of missing out, plus the fact that Pepsi prices might skyrocket (more) and make it even more unobtainable….
The Pepsi is a watch I would allocate primarily because of it‘s history and „specialness“ factor if that makes sense. It’s a Rolex icon, just like the sub.
Also peeling the stickers off my BLNR seems a bad move at the moment, as it would instantly take away value from it.
The BLRO would be a wear only, no safe queen watch.
On the other hand I could care less about removing the stickers on my BLNR if I plan to make it a „wearer“.

I like the color combination on the BLNR more, it gives it a more elegant vibe, where as the Pepsi is more sporty.
But the fact that the Pepsi bezel is a little more unique and red with blue is harder to produce with ceramic, makes it interesting.
Plus, the jubilee bracelet on the Pepsi is more comfortable.
Decisions over decisions.
I think it might be best to keep the ExpII and Batman and save up for the Pepsi

Interesting information there. I would get the BLRO then if you will be exchanging a safe queen for a watch you'll wear! Infinitely more value IMO.

Also worth looking for a current BLNR. Same spec as Pepsi in every way other than the bezel color.
