Finally got a call from the AD.....and I said No Thanks...

So it finally happened. I was on a dive trip in Hawaii a little more than a week ago (little flex, not sorry) and just before we head out on the dive boat I get a text and an email from my awesome SA at the Seattle AD (I'm talking about you David @ Ben Bridge), so I called him immediately and he told me he has a Batman on a jubilee for me...for a second or two I almost jumped on it...but that isn't the watch I really want. I'm sure it is someone's want, just not mine. I have a Grand Seiko SBGJ237 Hi-beat GMT that can tell time in three time zones and has a blue and white bezel and blue sunburst dial face...love that watch, not giving it up for a Batman.

Sure I could have flipped the Batman for several thousand, but I really didn't want the watch and I didn't want to take from someone who might really want and appreciate it. Don't get me wrong, I am a committed capitalist and I love making money, but this situation just didn't sit right with me. I didn't want the watch and I knew if I bought it I would just flip it.

I told David I'm still holding out for the 126610LV (Starbucks, Kermit, Cermit...what ever you want to call it). He said he should be able to get it for me in the next 2 or 3 months... Here's hoping that the good Karma of not taking advantage and scooping up a watch I really didn't want works out and sometime in the next few months I'll be able to post that awesome incoming 126610LV...

You are a good man, hopefully it will go to someone who will wear and enjoy it, rather than flip it.

Get the watch that you want and don’t settle no matter what imo. You made the right choice if the Batman wasn’t your first choice. Hoping you get your green submariner soon!

Nicely done Will, I think that was a stand up thing to do.

I'd never heard of Grand Seiko till I came on here. Can't wrap my head the idea of paying four figures for a watch made by the company synonymous with the gold plated £60 watch. Is there a Grand Timex too? Would have been much better had they created a new brand name.....Lexus works much better than Grand Toyota would have......

You should head over to the Grand Seiko/Seiko sub-forum. Seiko is probably the most self-sufficient manufacture in the world of watches and their products are awesome.

GS is awesome, and many models spank Rolex on accuracy, by far. And best of all, I LOVE the fact that there are folks out there who are ignorant of GS. This makes it the ultimate under the radar watch. Like “fight club” only the people that need to know, know.

One need not be a non-zombie or part of an exclusive fight club to realize the Grand Seiko's have one of the crappies flimsiest bracelet on a planet. Great watch and beautiful polishing yes but for some they prefer a more robust feeling watch with a premium bracelet over polishing details. This case is easier to make now than before when GS was starting to breakthrough and were available for very low prices, now they are well into Rolex pricing which in my opinion is not a good strategy.

We used to hear those clever comments a lot about 8 years ago. Spend some time learning about brands other than Rolex, you’ll gain a wider appreciation for watches and you’ll be less apt to make uneducated comments like this one.

I think the Japanese are just more sensible. When Lexus first came out those same models were still sold as Toyotas in Japan. A Lexus GS400 was a Toyota Aristo. A Lexus IS300 was a Toyota Altezza. Etc. But even today, take a look at the glass, or the embossing on the castings of various mechanical parts and you'll see the name Toyota on all Lexus models.

To me, Credor is the one that sounds silly. What is that? What country do those come from? Is that an indy brand? The name has no association to anything, good or bad. Anchoring your upscale line to a brand that is known for decades of rock solid performance, and one that just about put the entire Swiss watch industry out of business, isn't exactly non-sensical in my book.

It’s for when you buy things you personally appreciate and not for what other people think of it. The Grand Seikos are among the best you can get in their price range.
Something on my list.

Yep, thats why I first bought a Rolex in 1990....I loved the design, quality and heritage. The idea that you could have a watch for life was most appealing. I still have my grandfathers Rolex in the depths of the safe, I think it was made around 1925...it still runs too. I loved the idea at the time that you could send it back to Rolex and it would come back looking like 'new'. I know that doesn't appeal to the collectors now but to those who would wear them hard day in day out it did.
Owning a Rolex 30 years ago was not about having a watch just to show off, there was no social media, they weren't worn by guys in trainers, tracksuits and tatts. It wasn't a big deal. So no, I'm not part of todays 'look what I have brigade' No one used to notice a Rolex on your wrist.....and no one robbed you for them.

Cool story bro. You cost yourself $8k and rest assured, it won't help you with the 126610LV. If anything it hurts. If the next person on their list wasn't David's client, how do you think David feels after this?

Cool opinion bro. David sold the watch to the next guy on the list and now knows assuredly that the OP is not a flipper so I am sure he'll get the Sub he really wants in the near future. It's called karma and I believe the OP will be rewarded for having some integrity.

Not really, much depends on AD relations and his perception and the shop's direction.

As a business owner POV, I will applaud OP's action and the 2 to 3 months "promise" of the Kermit to OP does shows the appreciation of this shop's to OP.

"David" can easily get the next in line to get his sales done too. I believe this batgirl/man is already a David's sale.
