I have a Sub Date purchased in 2004. I had it serviced in 2007. The watch is gaining a few minutes each month....to the point where I'm having to re-set it to prevent being 5-8 mins ahead after several months. I believe it needs to be serviced again....anyone have thoughts?

Should not be more that -4, +6 seconds a day.

How many months is "several months"?

If it's running +6 (within COSC standard) that's going to be 3 minutes a month. So 3 months down the line you are +9 minutes.

My sub date is a VERY consistent -2 seconds per day. I'd prefer it run +2, but losing a minute a month isn't that big a deal. Approximately every two months when I change the date I sync it back with the atomic clock. Unless you are running outside of COSC standard I wouldn't worry about it and just set the watch when you change the date.

It doesn't need to be serviced...

But you could always have it regulated if you are not happy with the timekeeping..

If you take it to a decent watchmaker...and give him the time to do the job, he should be able to regulate it to within a minute a month..

We need better information on how many minutes over how many months or days. It' maybe working just fine.

And what prey do a few and several equate too,without precise information we cannot help you.And as Larry pointed out if watch is outside COSC spec average -4 +6seconds over 24 hours, all thats needed is simple regulation.

Sounds like you are within the standards set for COSC so I'd just wear and enjoy your watch and adjust it as necessary. My GMT gains 5 seconds a day so every month I just adjust the time accordingly!!!

What has already been said is correct but if it still bothers you, get a timing adjustment first and see if that helps - it may not need a full service.
