Would you do this trade?

Advice needed

There is a grey in town with a slate, two tone daytona 116523 that I'm trying to make a trade with. I am offering up my black explorer ii AND grape OP39. My original offer was a straight trade, but grey is insisting that I am short. What do you guys think of the trade straight up? And what do you think of the trade if I have to put in some more $$, and how much should I put up?

Remember that your watches are not worth market value to this seller. He has to make a profit by selling these watches if he accepts them as a partial payment for the Daytona.

No and no. Not on value so much as what you are getting compared to the watches you will lose.

No. You're trading two perfectly good watches with provenance for a TT Daytona that isn't even that pretty.

Two for one trades almost never work in the sellers advantage from what I’ve seen.

Cash is king and if you can swing it, I’d buy the Daytona and sell the ones you need privately

So you want to trade two SS watches, a GMT and a discontinued dial OP for a TT????
To each their own but I wouldn’t do that trade even if at even trade!!

Value wise I’d say it’s close to a straight trade…..although I say this with no knowledge of history, condition of watches, polished or not, are they all full sets, etc….(that’d be helpful)
But I could definitely see where the seller would ask for $$ on top, solely due to Daytona hype.
I personally would not trade those two for that particular TT Daytona.

If you want a 2tone Daytona, I'd go for it. The "Grape" may be harder to move, and the black Explorer is not uncommon.

Seems the consensus is against the offer you have; if you really, really want that Daytona, this may be the way to go, a bit more work on your part but a better deal for you.

Sorry, but not enough information to evaluate

Are all the watches full set? Crisp and complete?

The dealer is insisting you are "short" because you are.

Did the dealer mention how much cash was needed on you part to complete the trade?

$1k on my end to complete the sale. I declined. Thanks for the advice guys. For once I actually listened. Usually I just say screw it and do my own thing. Glad though, was kind of disappointed with the Daytona. It feels really small and kind of underwhelming.

think you made the right call OP... your existing pieces are much more versatile as a pair than that 1 TT daytona

No, that Daytona is one of the uglier Daytona's I have seen.

I have no opinion on whether it’s a good trade, but the Daytona you’re considering is my favorite “two-tone” Daytona. It is an absolutely beautiful watch in person, but I gave it up reluctantly to obtain another watch long ago. If I were to ever consider another “two-tone” Daytona, it would be the same model. You should see it in the sun in Hawaii! These are not the best photos, but in my opinion, it’s a beautiful watch.

I think the TT Slate Daytona is cool and unique… having a unique Daytona is never a bad thing.

I support “converting” your Explorer II and Grape OP in the Daytona, but as others mentioned, I’d try to sell privately or at least shop around to a few other Gray/resellers/trusted sellers. You may be better off converting those to $ and buying the Daytona.

Good luck!
