Should I? Daytona Oysterflex Panda vs.White Gold Sub vs. Aquanaut 5167A)
Ok, so I suddenly have the chance to trade in my beloved new YG Daytona Oysterflex “golden panda!) for a new white gold Sub 126619LB, which was always my grail as a younger age. Might require a couple bucks, but not much.
To add more complexity to the situation, adding in a couple bucks more (still not a ton) an older 5167A has Come into the trade picture. I’m having such a hard time thinking of what “sings” to me and what the smart trade is (I do this way too often to ignore any financial aspects). My gut is all three will hold their value fairly well. The Patek is a freaking dream, but not sure I can daily wear it. The white gold / blue Sub was my unobtainable dream for ages (when I was a little younger), so i could argue that really sings the hardest to me. It’s the all around package. But am I stuck in my younger brain? The Daytona is near perfect for me. My favorite dial combo. The gold is so stealth, while still being true YG. Panda Subdials are real Panda-filled in. It’s the rubber bracket I’m having the hardest time with - that WG Sub keeps pulling. (And I know I can get a bracelet on the Patek. Any thoughts? (The chrono feature and bezel benefits don’t apply here) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sounds like the sub is the one you really want.

I agree it sounds like the Sub is what you’ve always wanted. But to me the Patek is a dream everyday watch. So that’s not a problem. But all are desirable watches that should hold their value so go with your gut. Both options are more under the radar than the gold Daytona.

Sub or Patek. Don't like the Daytona.

You love your Daytona. You’ve mentioned it several times.
I would keep the Daytona. The PP is a daily wearer. But I’m not a fan. Sub. It’s understated. But the Daytona are special. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Personally I'd go 5167 any day among those. More refined and way more under the radar despite all the recent hype. For a diver like the sub or a tool watch such as the Daytona I continue to prefer steel over PM by a country mile.

My vote is for the Patek. I see a friend daily hers, so don't see why you can't.
Love the white gold sub, but prefer the older, blue dial version. As for the Daytona, it's not my personal favorite dial configuration. |

A full white gold sub is very tantalising.
I know full well how the Patek, and most if not all Pateks are the pinnacle of finishing and refinement but the second hand values are just stupid right now. Its a steel and rubber watch and whilst its very nice, I'd much rather own that full white gold sub. I do also love that Daytona and therefore it is purely personal preference. Wether you get sucked into the Patek name on the wrist thing is up to you but for me, it isn't worth it. |

All three are great timepieces at their MSRP but they are overprice on secondary market especially the SS Aquanaut.
I would rather keep your YG OF Daytona, I always rank PM higher over SS. You can go on the waitlist on WG Sub at your AD.

Daytona is the only one I'd go for. Not fond of the color scheme on the Sub nor the look of the PP. Not to mention one in the hand is always better than two in the bush.

They are all great watches and I am sure you would enjoy anyone of them. The WG sub is just so cool. That blue is awesome and makes it really unique and unmistakable to a Rolex fan but flies under the radar of non watch guys as just another sports watch. The PP cool factor is mostly due to the hype and appears to disappear on most men’s wrists. It is just too dainty looking. The PM and more complicated aquanauts don’t but they are also more expensive.

I would keep what you have if the only choices are the new Sub and the older PP. If the watch was a Smurf I would say jump on it because I like the dial better. The PP is just ok to me and depending on when it was serviced you could be looking at a costly job and the service times are at best daunting.

The Daytona is likely worth more than the sub. I’ve seen some for 50k . And seen some white subs for 45k. So you could probably make money off that trade. Do it. But long term the Daytona will be even more valuable. I sold my gold Daytona and regret it terribly. And definitely don’t buy the patek since you won’t wear it regularly. What’s the point of a watch if you’re just staring at it in a case

The WG would be a nice trade up to reach for a grail (though I think the OF is more comfortable to live with).
I think the 67 is a nicer watch as I get older, but if I’m on the younger side, I wouldn’t waste the money on it over the WG sub. |

The Sub and Panda seemed to be the best of choices . You're leaning toward the sub which has everything you like and you can wear that casual or dress . Good luck!!

Of those three, the Aquanaut will be the hardest to come by. So if you like it, grab it. You'll have better opportunities to get the other two later on. The 5167A, you never know. Might get discontinued...

I would also tell you to keep what you have. I am not a fan of the blue bezel and black dial of the new 126619, and I agree with 1William that the blue dial blue bezel would be the one to get. I do the like the Aquanaut, but I do not think that it is better than the yellow gold on OF - to me that watch would be the one that I would want to keep.

I would personally not bother.
This Daytona is the most gorgeous out of the three. |

Thats a tough call! I would personally take the Patek over the WG Sub or just stay put with the Daytona.

Keep in mind, there’s no way the 126619 could have been your grail when you were younger, since it didn’t exist. The 12 version is not the same, nor is it as special (IMHO).
So that means the 116619 OG Smurf was your grail, and there are many excellent or unworn ones out there that are readily available (and for less than a comparable aquanaut). I’d lose that Daytona in a heartbeat for either of your other choices, each of which makes an excellent daily, and would be a standout in any collection. The 116619 was always one of my grails, and I’m really glad I went for it when I did. The aquanaut is obviously also great, so just get the one you want the most. Either would be better than the YG/OF (again, IMHO). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The WG sub should be easier to get at an AD than a OF Daytona, if you can, wait and have both. If its an almost straight 1 for 1 trade, I would keep the Daytona, but tough call. |

Out of those three it's the WG sub for me, but prefer 116619.
I've never been a daytona fan. However the oysterflex is very comfortable and the YG shows just the right amount of bling IMO. For $40k+ I wouldn't be getting that PP piece. There are still some PM annual calendar PP's out there that can be had for $40 or under
