What is the ultimate Submariner?!

Really interested to hear peoples opinions on the ultimate version of the submariner!

For me it is a close call between the;

14060M
5513
1680 single red line

What are peoples thoughts?

Would love to see some photos of your most coveted submariner..

The modern sub is beautiful but some of the vintage models are simply sublime

I have the 114060 and 116610LV in my collection currently but thinking of adding a vintage sub

This. I think the new 41mm sub date is a home run. I love the new dimensions and bracelet/clasp.

Doesn’t get more classic, versatile and useful than a black sub date. For these reasons and more it’s the ultimate submariner.

To me the ultimate Sub is the MilSub reference 5517 with broad arrow hands and fully graduated bezel. Since I don’t have that I have content myself with the 116610LV aka The Hulk.

I am assuming Rolex is going to do something special for 2023 (70th anniversary for Sub).

Do you think the case of the 114060/116610 will stand out with the larger case sizes in decades to come?

They could. I have a feeling they could do a YG or RG Sub with Green dial as their 70th anniversary model. Let’s see

Subs just keep improving and the modern variations are great. If I could have only one it would be the SD43 (I know ), present ones I have

I have a 2021 black date, so biased towards that, although I think they need a splash of red like Omega Seamaster Professionals have. Red Submariner text and tip of the seconds hand. That would be superlative.

16800 Transitional sub up to around 1982 to 1984. Vintage feel with the matte dial and plots but contemporary specs with improved depth rating and sapphire Crystal.

But then along came the new generation no date subs. That really is virtually unbeatable.

Pretty much anything pre-ceramic for starters. Money no object a mint 1680. Just love the raised crystal. A pumpkin patina 16800 after that.

Ultimate daily wear, a 16610 (hugely biased).
