Help please regarding new Daytona!

Hello All,
I collected my new black dial steel Daytona from my AD on Saturday. I was over the moon and didn’t really inspect the watch. I came back home and didn’t get the chance to open the watch (had a lot of work to do). So fast forward to today, I wore the watch and suddenly noticed a white dot next to the Rolex text on the dial. At first I thought it was dust on the crystal, wiped it and noticed that the dot is on the dial. Please check the pictures and let me know what you think should happen next. I will definitely call my AD (it is night time here) but would like to know from you how do you think I should deal with the situation? If it is a dust would they be able to easily remove it? And if it is a scratch would it take a lot of time to replace the dial? Is it a good idea to have a 3 days old watch get opened and fixed for such thing? Shall I request a new watch (this would probably mean another long wait)? Shall I just keep i like this? To be honest I can’t unsee it and it is bugging me.

Top quality QC there.

Some will no doubt say to live with it and get it sorted out in 10 years at its first service. However if you can see it with the naked eye, I know that once you see it and know it's there, you can't UNSEE it or forget about it. I guarantee it WILL bother you.

A friend of mine had a similar issue on an SD43 he bought. He didn't fancy having his brand new watch opened up, so he asked the AD for a replacement, and they came through for him, replacing it in a matter of weeks. They just allocated the next one they received to him. Personally, if I was you, that's the route I'd go initially and see what they say.

I had the same thing about 6 years ago on a Daytona. Took it to an AD, they opened it on the spot, cleaned the dial, replaced the gasket and had it back to me in less than an hour. No scratches, no blemishes. Very easy fix.

Tell them that you want them to be as careful as possible since it's a brand new watch and you should be the one putting the first scratches in it yourself.

No big deal.

Yes, you can definitely see it. It would bother me as well. I would definitely go to AD and have them tell you what your options are and go from there!

That would bug me for sure. Sometimes the fix might seem more stressful than the dot. Driver8 makes a really good point and that one starts with the AD. Good luck!!

Thanks for the reply! Part of me want it to be fixed immediately so I can enjoy the watch and the other part thinks it should be replaced with a brand new watch. I will call them tomorrow and see what they suggest. They are very good and I purchased all of my watches from them.

Ask them what they are willing to do and then decide if leaving as is, fixing it pr waiting for another is the right move for you

Thanks! This is reassuring to be honest. I thought it is not an easy fix. If it is this simple then I wouldn’t mind having it fixed.

Agree with the comments. Some things are OK to have, others not so much. This is easy to fix (anything is honestly) and I’d ask them to be careful, even though the person who will get your request will probably not transmit your query.

I wouldn’t live with that obvious of a spot. A minor mark in the corner is one thing but a big white dot in the center of that beautiful black dial jumps right out. Get it removed.

It depends if it's dust or paint. My mate's SD43 was paint, so it would've been a replacement dial from RSC if the AD hadn't stepped up and got him a replacement.

You say you've bought all your watches from this AD, so I think you've got a very good chance of a replacement.

I'll be VERY surprised if they offer you a new watch even if you demand one
Best Case Scenario is they take it out the back, clean the dial and return it

Not a perfect solution but we don't live in a perfect world
I'm sure there thousands of people who would happily take it off your hands, dust and all

I dunno actually - when my mate got his replacement SD43, the AD told him they'd send his old one back to Rolex to be fixed, and when they get it back they would sell it as pre-owned as the warranty card had been completed and it had officially been sold before. Personally I think it would work out quite nicely for the AD as they keep a long-term customer happy, and they get a watch they can sell for a hefty mark-up in their pre-owned section.

It bothers you enough to post about it so get it fixed. It’s the only way you will be truly happy. Probably a quick open and dust. Congrats on the watch

Something similar happened to me on GMT about 10 years ago. I brought it to Dallas RSC and had it back the next day. I suggest you have it fixed by AD or RSC. It will bother you every time you look at the watch.

Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a white dot on a black dial. I'd get it cleaned up. I'd always notice it.

First of all.....A big congrats! Very nice! As for the spot on the dial, I would definitely take that in. Hopefully it's just a piece of dirt and it can be back on your wrist in a matter of hours. Even if they needed to replace the dial and it took a month, I would still do it. There is no way I could "unsee" that if it was mine.

Tell them you now want to swap the watch for the white dial version of the Daytona....that way any white dots will be much harder to see

This is a good approach!

To OP, just send to RSC. They will either clean it up or replace dial under warranty.

Wear it for a few days, it may move out of view on its own. Unfortunate but I also hate the idea of opening up a new watch. It would bother me as well....

Kinda this. These things are designed to be serviced. It's not like taking apart a satellite or something.

now that I can see the dot it would irritate me. Rather than looking down time my eyes would see the dot follow first follow by checking the time. my suggestion is go talk to AD and hope they will send it back to RSC. sorry for this.

I think this could be a very easy fix. Either the dial gets cleaned at the AD, or RSC can solve it. Best case it takes a few hours, worst case it takes a few weeks. Either way, it’s fixable.

That would bother me as well. Get it fixed, it should be pretty easy with someone experienced.

Besides you have that lovely 15202 to pass the time with while the Daytona is gone
