Tudor Black Bay 58 vs. Stainless Rolex Submariner
Hello watch fam-
I’ve currently been debating on what to purchase next. I have achieved some goals and would like to celebrate with a new timepiece. My thoughts are between the black bay 58 or a Stainless Sub but I can’t decide between the two. My wife has a 5 digit stainless sub and will be selling it (not my watch so not my choice) and I definitely spend a lot of time looking at it and deciding whether I would like to purchase one for myself As a daily. If I did, I would purchase the newer model W/ Ceramic bezel because I personally like the look very much. My current daily is an aqua terra on rubber which I love. My CHNR and serti dial sub do get plenty of wrist time but the aqua terra for me is just a “throw it on and go” watch. Now comes the black bay 58. I have been drooling over this watch for quite some time. As far as looks go, I personally think the black bay is superior to the sub. Obviously- two totally different class of watches. I do not buy watches as an investment however i won’t lie and say in this case the value of a submariner compared to a BB58 doesn’t factor into my decision. Was hoping to get some feedback from owners who have a sub and a BB 58 to help with my decision. Lastly- sub would be bought at retail from my AD and not at market pricing. Thank you! I have a BB58 and it’s a great watch. I’d recommend it to anyone however it’s not on the same level as a Submariner.
They’re different enough to have both in a collection though. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Very different watches. A Rolex is in a different class.
Buy the sub. Buy once and buy right. It will cost more. But over the years, it's a small price to pay. IMHO |

I love the Black Bay in general. Since that is readily available, why not get that first and see how you like it while you wait on a submariner.

Get the Sub…it’s what you want. Coming from BB58 owner here.
Too bad your wife is selling her Sub. Best scenario would be for you to get the 5-digit from her. Best wishes |

Can't go wrong, sounds like you'd enjoy both. Glidelock on the Sub is still one of the best bracelet adjustment systems out there, while the BB58's dimensions can fit just about any size wrist. If you have the opportunity to purchase a Sub at an AD, I'd go for that as a BB58 can be purchased just about anywhere these days.
Either way, enjoy as you're picking winners! |

Tudor Black Bay 58 vs. Stainless Rolex Submariner
What?
There is no 58 vs Sub. The Tudor is nice, for what it is, but the two are different leagues. You prefer the look of the 58? You’ve answered your own question. |

I own bb58 navy and 6 subs, date ,no date, hulk, sea dweller. The difference is like Audi and VW, depends on how you like it. You should try them all before making decision.

I like everything about the BB58 except the bracelet and clasp.
I like everything about the sub. Easy decision. |

I think the 5 digit sub and BB58 will feel similar. Except newer tudor will feel better built. 6 digit sub is quote clinical, BB58 is warmer. If you’re BB58 just “buy” hers. If a modern sub is what you truly want then don’t waste your time with the Tudor. More expensive in long run.

As others stated, two very different watches at very different price point and availability. I’d say, find a place where you can try them on and see which one you love. Some ADs have watches to try.
The Sub will wear slightly larger than the BB58. The BB58 offers more choices in terms of dial color, metal and configuration (bracelet, strap). I recently tried on the BB925 and i liked it a lot. Wears small on the leather strap and is very comfortable. I’m considering this one for my collection at some point. Good luck choosing, both are great watches! |

I have both (SubC, bb58 blue), and the bb58 does not compare to the sub, but they're not really meant to compete.
If you can swing the sub it's always the better choice, but there's argument for having both in a collection. Personally, the 58 fills the role in my collection of your Aqua Terra. Throw it on, don't think about it, don't worry about it. |

I have wanted a Sub for a while, and completely oblivious to the wait times, I recently decided it was time to buy one. Since I obviously could not walk in and buy a Sub at an AD, I bought a Black Bay to both hold myself over and also establish a relationship with the AD. I definitely still really want the Sub, but I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like my Black Bay. Previously, I would have told you with certainty that I would be selling my Black Bay as soon as I got the call to pick up my Sub. Now, I think the Black Bay will still get a lot of wrist time, even after I get the Sub.
In addition to simply liking the style of the Black Bay, I like that it is a little more under the radar. I can wear it in situations I may not wear a Rolex. I also like that when I accidentally bang it on something, it's about 40% of the price of a Sub, so I am not too worried about a scratch here or there. |

Went through the same thing 3 years ago. But then the the 58 was new on the market and selling for ~$4500 and used subs were 6-7K. Now the 58 has settled down and reseller subs have doubled. Don't know if I would pay 12k for a sub these days and retail is nearly impossible, at least where I live.

Zero comparison possible. Unless your just comparing which one you can get first at MSRP....
Best $9150 I've ever spent. And if you could get both the BB and the Sub at MSRP buy the Submariner ($8100) or SubDate. Tell your wife to GIVE YOU her Sub? Still married right? HaHa |

I own both and they get equal wrist time. Buy the 58 only if you really want it and not as a substitute for the Sub. If you truly want the Sub then go for that.

Tudor Black Bay 58 vs. Stainless Rolex Submariner
I have both and they are so different. Both are really great, but not super comparable. BB58 is very thin and light, like a 5 digit sub. The new submariner is much heavier and wears with a lot more presence. Dial on the BB58 is great, but the dark deep black sub dial with the AR coating is far superior. I would lean submariner always unless the wrist size is 6 inches.

Comparison. Not even in the same ballpark.
