OP36 - New Dials & Silver/Green Inquiry
Hey,
Do you think there’s a chance that Rolex will introduce new dial colours for the OP36? I’d really love a white one. The silver-ish one that’s available right now doesn’t look too bad, but I’m not quite sure about it. Haven’t really seen it in real life yet, but is the dial hard to read? Does the dial blend in too much with the steel case? A pure white one like the prior model would be great. Also thinking about the green one. Don’t know how versatile that one will be though. Also, I guess it’s pretty much impossible to get one right now? Any ideas of the waiting time for a green one? Always appreciate pictures of your own watches if you have any available! :) |

I was in the market for the green OP36 for a bit, was turned down by multiple AD’s, and eventually one boutique that I’ve never shopped at helped me get one (it was for my wife, which they knew). At that AD it took a total of 4 months, however according to the GM, that was the 1st one they received since I requested it.

So here is a real world photo of the silver 36mm I tried on at Short Hills last month. Blends a little too much into the bracelet and bezel for me but this also is not the best shot ever. In regard to the green, I absolutely love the model and have been hunting for it in 36mm since October and do not think the quest will end for a little while. Here's a photo of the 41mm green as well. Best of luck!

Rolex did make a 36mm white dial OP, but it was discontinued. Reference 116000. Looks just like the current OP with the double indices at 3, 6 and 9 positions. They are selling nowadays for around $8500.

A white dial OP (any size) would be great, but the silver dial is absolutely gorgeous in person (again, regardless of size). The YG hands/hour markers reflect in a very unique way off of the silver sunburst background and give it a very light gold/champagne hue. Much more subtle than the champagne variant on the TT DJ or gold DD. Great vintage vibe.
As to the other question: Yes, the silver dial blends into the case/bezel a bit, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It allows the silver dial variants to wear a bit bigger than their higher contrast counterparts. I'd go so far as to say, if you like smaller watches, don't turn down the 34 in silver w/o trying it. |

The 116000 came in a white dial option. It's absolutely stunning. I cannot begin to express the beauty, quality, and refinement of this masterpiece. The dial, case, and bracelet are simply perfection. There is no other word. It is captivating, I just love looking at it and appreciating it in all aspects of its construction. Always makes me smile and think "WOW". Paired to an absolute beast of a movement (3130) that is insanely accurate, precise, reliable, a joy to wind, and dead-silent on the wrist.
I would say: Pick one up, you won't regret it

I recently picked up a Bluesy and was offered the OP36. I have got some history with the AD so not really sure how hard the OP is to get but I'm glad I have it - highly recommended

Beautiful! Do you thinks it’s versatile enough? Is the green colour discrete? |

It does have easy link, and it’s pretty discrete, though different lighting tends to greatly effect the dials view-ability.

Yes I would say the OP36 is pretty discreet and versatile. In person it does not come across as loud (at least not to me)

This is probably the only watch I have the doesn't have a black dial. I don't wear it often but the silver dial is different and nice.

I have the 116000 in Steel. It is one of my most worn watches over the last two years. I have heard people mention it might be more difficult to see at certain angles or lighting, I have not had any issue with the legibility. The sunburst dial has the ability to make it look like a different watch depending on the lighting.

What do you guys think about the 34mm size? Would it be too small? Are there any men here who wear that size? I have minuscule wrists.

I too have often wondered this as I would be open to trying 34 as well. Maybe some can provide photos.

By the way, not all 36 mm are the same either. The discontinued, previous generation models all wear a little larger, thanks to thicker lugs. As an example, the 116000 looks larger and feels more substantial on the wrist than a comparable 126000. Definitely looks bigger than the 124270 as well (the so-called "36"mm explorer). I personally feel the OP36 white wears like a 38mm, having compared it to my old SARB035. The previous generation of 34mm fits the same bill, so I think the 114200 will wear close to a 36mm on wrist. Just keep in mind that it has a smaller (19 mm) bracelet. Same clasp though. My feeling is that the 114200 is fairly comparable to the current 124270.

The OP36 white or “Frosty” is the best and rarest, IMHO. It’s very comfortable, big for a 36 and the dial is just smooth, classy, and versatile. They probably won’t make another one like this. Rolex does not repeat themselves, if you haven’t noticed.

This thread has a great pic showing what I'm talking about: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...highlight=op34 The silver is a 31, the pink a 34, but they look nearly the same size. In short, the silver wears larger than any other color, it has a great vintage aesthetic (with its size and gold accents) and works very well as a smaller men's watch. However I consider that exclusive to the silver version. Personally, I also liked the narrower bracelet and much, much prefer the single hour markers at 3, 6 and 9. Those who've remarked on the difference in size between this watch and its predecessor (114200) are correct. However the silver in particular works very well in this size and I for one like the more classically proportioned case. By the way, I'm 6'1 with a 7" wrist, and I like this watch quite well (but prefer smaller watches in general). |

I just saw that OP34 isn't available in green. I really need to test them out in person. I wish they'd make the current reference with a white dial though.

I love the green. I picked up the op36 green, however, I wish I had bought the 41 instead. 36 just doesn’t feel right to me.

Yes I was very fortunate - I had expressed interest in the OP but I am not sure if I would have been offered the OP without buying the Submariner though.

Does anyone here have a comparison pic of the silver 36 and 34mm?
I actually got to see the green dial today (in 41mm) and was a bit underwhelmed. The silver really looked beautiful though, but was only available in 36mm. I got to try a 34mm, but it had a pink dial. I want to see how much larger the silver dial makes the 34mm look. |
