Updated Sea Dweller 43 this year?

I'm interested in opinions on whether Rolex might updated the Sea Dweller this year? With it being out now for several years as the anniversary edition, does it seem very likely that they might do a refresh and maybe change the red text to white, go to the gloss black dial and AR coating on the crystal like the Sub 41's. If Rolex is at all considering going into a titanium reference, the Sea Dweller or a reworked Deep Sea seem like most likely ones.

Patiently (not really) waiting for a Sea Dweller 43 but have a little concern that there might be some changes in the spring.

They already updated it (technically speaking) when they added the crown etc. I don’t envision another change so soon, but who knows?

Rolex may discontinue it all together just as they eventually did with the Kermit
How long was that production run for an anniversary reference?

I think titanium makes sense for SD but it just doesn't feel as special as oyster steel, marketing and all.

I wouldn't mind seeing a James Cameron dial on a 43mm. And maybe slim the normal to 42...

Unfortunately yes.

I owned mine for about 3 1/2 years, and I loved that watch .... it was released in the same year that I turned 50. I believe it to be the very first one delivered in Canada (maybe NorthAmerica), dated May 4/2017.

At first I didn't really think much of the comfort because I rotate watches every day or two. I tried every combo of link set set ups, diver extension on and off. Ultimately it didn't suit my wrist and I had to let it go.

That reference still haunts me.

Some think that adding a tiny crown at the 6 o’clock is THE update, but IMHO an update if it will ever happen is gonna be changing the red text to white, and probably the matte dial into a glossy one. The other possibility is to discontinue it as they’ve done with the same model before and many other references recently.

It is a reference that some people find to be very comfortable and others quite uncomfortable. The determining factor is a simple one - do you have a flat wrist or not?

If you have a flat wrist, you will most likely find it to be very comfortable. Possibly one of the most comfortable references out there.

If you do NOT have a flat wrist, then the case back design will make it uniquely uncomfortable. It will simply not feel right on your wrist.

It is not about the size of one’s wrist but rather about whether it is a flat wrist (good for the reference) or a rounded wrist (not a good thing for this reference).

remove the red text, may be. but why would they remove the cyclops? doing so the dial will need redesign to retain balance aesthetically.

I hope not, it’s perfect the way it is. I don’t get the comfort issues with this watch, wears great unless you have tiny wrists.

Reduce the depth rating to allow it to be thinner with a flat back. Please.

It’s such an attractive watch, but man…I can’t keep it on for more than a few hours at a time. I actually carry an Everest pouch in my briefcase JIC it becomes unbearable.

I wonder if the designers at Rolex actually wore this watch for any period of time before releasing it? Is there really nothing they could’ve done?

I’d love for Rolex to update it with a thinner, more ergonomically friendly case back.

It would be nice if Rolex then offered to replace the case backs for all existing SD43 owners.

It's certainly a polarizing one. Many here claim that it's the most comfortable watch they own.

I guess it all comes down to wrist shape and your own definition of comfort.

I honestly think it's the most beautiful diver Rolex makes. If not for the tiny, deep caseback design, I'd still own it.

I don’t see the cyclops going away even though it is controversial. Also, I would doubt they will duplicate the James Camron dial but something similar would be cool. The case back and fit is obviously the big polarizing element.

The SD is so comfortable as a daily and so rugged too, however, understand that the case back is an issue with some. Someone else mentioned it elsewhere, but the raised case back helps in the crown not digging into the hand.

The fact that many people find SD43 is an old dead beaten horse on this forum . I don’t doubt the shape of the case back has been the issue . I have been wearing mine since the initial release and don’t find that to be an issue at all . I know particular people on this forum have purchased this piece and have been elated and a few months later they have decided to move the piece .

I haven't noticed any discomfort with mine. Have you guys ever thought of replacing the caseback with the flat titanium one from the Deepsea? Wondering if it would fit.
