Rolex Datejust 16233 or 16013?

New to posting, but I’ve been creeping the forum for a while.

A little about me: I’ve had Rolexes several years ago in my early 20s. Started with a 14060M, got a 16610, then traded it for a GMT master, eventually sold that, etc.

Since then, I’ve been crown-less, but invested into real estate. Now I’ve found myself with spare capital and looking to upgrade my Apple Watch. I’ve always admired the 16013 since seeing a review of the watch from a blogger about 10 years ago. At the time, it seemed like a great watch with a sleeper budget. At that time, a fair example would sell for around $2,000. I’ve watched prices creep, and now finding a piece is tough. A good condition 16013 seems to be similar in price to a 16233.

I’ve always liked the open 6’s and 9’s with the 16013, but have seen some 16233 with this feature. The plexi crystal of the 16013 did seem interesting, but upon reflection it seems like it may be more in line with purist/collector interest, but realistically I’m wondering if the more modern features of the 16233 may be more in line with more practical ownership of a guy approaching 30 years old. It certainly seems like there is a greater selection of 16233’s available, and possible in better shape than a 16013. As an economics major, I also welcome any thoughts for appreciation on either model. I know it’s not a true investment, but I’m relatively indifferent between either model.

I welcome any thoughts!
