A few days with the 58

Yeah - it’s still nice !

A couple of things I noticed the little gold metal ring holding the lume pip felt a bit snaggy to touch, like it has a jaggy edge.
Not a big deal and was an easy quick fix.
Bracelet feels like a 4 or 5 year old daily worn Rolex bracelet.
Clasp has pretty sharp edges on the inside which you notice while wearing, this should be an easy fix and a minute on a polishing mop.
Clasp is crying out for an easy link.
Lume is bright all night, once charged I can see it through a new thick duvet.
39mm is a great size and honestly who needs crown guards ??
The watch looks better out of the show room, it’s starting to pick up scratches and is better for it.
Oh and everyone in my house now has Covid except for me, I’m not claiming the 58 protects you from all Illnesses, however I’ve not seen any conclusive proof that it doesn’t .

Great review man. I agree with it all after 3 years of wear.

I’ve gotten COVID at least once while wearing, but could just be a breakthrough case.

My guess is either
1) not really Covid , maybe you had a cold?
2) not really a black bay 58 , maybe you bought an Onega?

A 5513 would be better all round except for the lume thing

Which is pretty much what it was but for some reason it was expensive.
Plus every time I put it on I had Covid, bird flu and a sore knee.

Makes me wonder if it’s the same 904L used by Rolex ? An interesting marketing dilemma for the two brands

They use 316L. It does list in in some of the watch specs eg the chrono

Let's not forget how handy that notable bezel is nowadays, for timing the fifteen minutes until your at home antigen test is ready to read...

Those antigen tests, like 58s, can be hard to find, though...

Yep nice still.
It’s growing on me as each day goes by.
Hard to find fault. If I’m picky
Reduce case size to 38 or 37.5mm so it undercuts the bezel slightly.
An easy link on the clasp would be great.
Polishing the edges from the underside of the bracelet

Super picky
Lose a line of text on the lower half of the dial, I can’t read any of it anyway.

Oh and I’ve ordered a seiko lol

I also picked up a BB58 recently, and it is just a really great watch. Like you say, I can't find fault with it.

Easy to pick up and put on, and wear without concern.

Not flashy, but quality, under the radar, well built, and I expect it to be around a long time.

Perfect companion to my Rolex watches. Sometimes you develop as much fondness for the supporting characters as the mains.

I’m in a house full of people either wearing apple watches or no watches . All of them have Covid .

I am definitely beginning to like these and may end up getting one after I can get my sub. I like the BB58 in black with the leather. My absolute grail watches are the original Rolex big crowns from the mid to late '50s, so the 6200, 6538, and 5510. What I like about the BB58 in black is it ties in elements from these pieces but with modern flair and tech. The big crown, guilt dial, and red triangle are great vintage accents.

Incidentally, I originally had convinced myself that I hated the snowflake hands. For years I had only seen macro shots online and I loathed them. I was a firm believer that I couldn't ever buy a Tudor because of them. Then this summer and fall I actually had a chance to see a neighbor's original Black Bay and then a Black Bay GMT at my AD. Low and behold, I loved them! And those hands, which in macro shots drove me nuts, actually look great in real life! They aren't noticeable AND they actually are functional when illuminated at night to quickly discern the hour hand if it's blocked by the minute hand.

I'm sold! It's funny how different things can end up being in person versus just seeing something online and blown up into monitor sized macro shots.

Can’t succinctly say why.

When Rolex has departed from 50 years of a classic and moved into clinical refinement, Tudor takes the place Rolex left. Very solid modern yet classic dive watch the 58 is.

#1 Glad you are healthy.

#2 Of all my watches, the BB58 is near the top or on the top. Depends on the day. But, I do like it more than the Daytona and GMT.

Funny you say that I thought the 58 black didn’t look great in the showroom and often not in pictures, especially my pictures.
But on the wrist I love it , there I’ve come right out and said it .
I too wasn’t a fan of the snowflake hands. Again on the wrist it’s all good. I appreciate the hand design more after I heard it was the French Navy who asked more legible hands than the Rolex hands fitted.
I think it will also look better with a little wear on it, it’s all a bit too shiny and new right now.
I also thought the pretend rivets would annoy me, but I don’t notice them and the fit the design of this black 58 if not the others.
The price also feels about what the modern submariner is worth.
Buying experience was also a joy.
So last thing I’ll say on my 58. It feels good.

Perhaps it’s because you don’t actually notice them IRL, just like the pesky virus when it sneaks up on you.

I’m betting that’s why you haven’t had COVID. It’s those rivets!

They should be prescribed by everyone’s healthcare provider !!

I’ve owned a few vintage Rolex with rivet straps. Look great in photos .
I surprisingly I quite like these ones on the BB

This was exactly what I loved about the BB58 as well! And, although I wouldn’t say no to 6538, my desire for one is basically gone. Besides the “oh the stories this watch could have” factor of a 50’s Sub, the Tudor is superior in every way.

Also, I agree about the hands, once it was on my wrist they disappeared into the complete aesthetic.

My only complaints are similar to the OP. The clasp, not enough micro adjust. Easy link would be great but I’d settle for a typical dive clasp with at least 5 adjustments. As others have mentioned many times, the half link option is needed too! I have to wear mine in a slightly different area of my wrist than all of my other watches :/

I too disliked the snowflakes but later I realized that it was more the fautina color than it was the shape. Once the white hands & indexes became available, I liked the watch a lot more.

I actually have my blue BB58 up for sale, but I'm starting to think that maybe I should just keep it... I really enjoy the matte finish and understated styling.

I've never noticed any sharpness on the underside of the bracelet. I love this steel wrap, but I agree it could use an Easy Link (or glidelock). There's no excuse not to put an adjustable clasp on these premium watches.

Come to think of it, I wore my BB58 most of the time during the holiday break, and I never got Covid. Two of my family members did, so I'm going to say conclusively that there is invisible antiviral spray from Switzerland that comes out of the rivets and protects the wearer.
