Stain on sapphire 116710LN
Hey Everyone!
A few years ago I bought this watch from the AD brand new. About one or two years ago some kind of colorful stain appeared on the sapphire, like a rainbow. I work at a desk, and as far as i remember, i did not use any chemical or hazardous material near the watch. I tried to remove it, washed it, but it didnt help. I took it back to tha AD, and asked their help, but they also could not remove it. They said, that the anti reflection coating is damaged, only solution is to replace it. I will probably get it replaced this year, but first i am courious if anybody had this type of problem before, or know what could do this to the sapphire, or has any idea what it is. By the way, i thought that Rolex does not use coating on the sapphire, obviously i knew it wrong. Any remark is much appreaciated! P.S: I attached a pic of the stain. |

There was never an AR coating on that crystal. I have no idea what your situation is, but I'd try rubbing alcohol, and if that didn't work, acetone and avoiding the bezel. I don't know if it will help, but that would be the the method I would personally try.

Your AD is silly, no AR coating there.
If the chemicals like alcohol, aceton don’t work try rubbing the crystal with toothpaste. It might take a while. That’s mildly abrasive but wil not scratch it.

I had something similar on my bond seamaster but it was only where the (aluminium) bezel was chipped and occurred after swimming in a pool so I believe it came from a reaction with the chlorine in the water and the exposed bit of bezel. I think mine came off with an alcohol wipe (avoiding bezel)
