Am I doing the right thing? (did it already :-))

Hi all,

Been growing my attraction to Rolex brand for ~ 7 years now, with previous owner experience to brands like Breitling, Omega, Longines and some Russians.

My entry into Rolex world was in 2016 an Explorer II polar 42 mm new from AD, which I am still proudly wearing maybe 70% of the time.

My second Rolex 4 years later - DJ 41 Rhodium dial, oyster bracelet, smooth bezel. Gets wrist time in more "smart" occasions.

I have been eyeing a Sub No Date for some years, with no action.

To bring the story to the present...respectfully after the rant:

Given that I have the opportunity to sell the DJ at a +50% price tag compared to my purchase price -and that I have the opportunity to buy the Sub ND 41 new model at AD price after I got waitlisted late December 2021 (less that 1 month ago) - for roughly the same money, what would you have done?

Disclaimer: the Sub ND is already paid for at AD price :-), will go get it in two weeks. Also the DJ will be sold during same period.

I must add I have no other watches than these two in wearing rotation.

Thanks for your opinions,

If you really wanted the Sub, good on you and congrats for finding it at an AD. too bad you want/have to lose the DJ in the process.

I would keep the DJ and add the Sub No Date. Why sell? It's still a good looking watch. But I understand some people want only a few watches here and there to wear.

Don't sell watches unless you are painfully bored with them or need food.

I would have kept the DJ, if I could afford it. Your next watch, if any, will probably be to replace the watch you are selling.

Just like you i have been eyeing the Sub ND lately. Just like what was said, keeping the DJ will be a good combo if you don’t need the funds.

Congratulations. You got the watch you wanted and funded it by disposing of a watch you didn't want.

And you've got a 42mm Polar. Nice.

Yes the 216570 Explorer II is 42mm.
It came out in 2011 and replaced the 16570, which is 40mm.

Can't see anything wrong with what you did. Congrats on the ND Sub, wear in good health.

Based on your story, I would have done the exact same thing. Congrats, OP.

Thanks everyone for their input, I may find that the DJ, as nice as it may look and feel, does not get that much wrist time, I must also admit that the money equation (+50% on DJ purchase price roughly equals what I paid for ND Sub) weighs in the decision.
