"At retail"

2002:

A: Sorry, mate, is that a Rolex?
B: It is! My Daytona. Love it. Do you wear a watch?
A: Do indeed! My Seiko SKX. Love it.
B: Great watch.
<Awkward silence>

2022:

A: Sorry, mate, is that a Rolex?
B: It is! My Daytona. Love it. Do you wear a watch?
A: Do indeed! A Daytona, too. Love it.
B: Got mine at retail. You?
A: Grey.
B: Great watch.

You mean:

2022:

A: Sorry, mate, is that a Rolex?
B: No it is a Breitling I didn't want, but I bought it to get on the Rolex Sub waiting list at my AD. Do you wear a watch?
A: Do indeed! An OP41 with Tiffany dial which isn't really Tiffany. I paid only $25k for it back in December '21!
B: Box and Papers bro!

I didn't think that anyone wore their Daytona's, I thought that they were all locked away gathering value.

Like the Seiko though, great watch.

B got his watch at retail because thats all he can afford.

A got his watch grey market because he can afford it because he made $400 MM selling his App to Microsoft and now drives a Lambo

Not sure which is the bigger flex.

Buying from an AD now shows you’re a smooth talker or big spender.

Buying from secondary market shows you’re either too rich to waste time with ADs or too dumb to realize how much you’re grossly overpaying.

I’ve bought from both an AD and trusted reseller. I’m prolly just dumb period. lol

I think this sums it up in today’s times. I wear my Rolex under my sleeve so no one can see. If I don’t wear shirt with sleeve, I won’t wear a Rolex.

The second you tell someone you got your pieces at MSRP at an AD, the next question is almost always "can you get me/intro me"...

A: Sorry, mate, do you have the time?
B: *looks at daytona* Yeah, its 12:30
A: Thanks
B: Hey, while you're here, did you know this is actually a Rolex Daytona. Its a REALLY REALLY Hard to get and i managed to pick one up for retail rather than paying $30k more by buying it from a dealer. Its $30k more because its so hard to get, but i have a good relationship with my AD so i was permitted to buy this thing for the retail price
A: *backs away slowly*

Yeah, it can be bragging a little if a guy goes on about getting it at retail from an AD.
