Challenging the value - 116503 vs 126711CHNR

Hi all,

Am trying to decide which has better future potential. Of course both are nice watches and am happy to own both, but currently want to get the one which will be a better value proposition in the short term should I need to cash out to get another model.

Why not just save up for the model you actually want?

I am buying grey! Hence the dilemma. Currently both cost about the same, and both are equally on par in terms of desirability for me. The tie breaker will be value. The root beer has shot up in value recently so I’m wondering if that could cool down in prices in a while

IMHO (because you are talking grey prices) I believe there is more upside in the Daytona. The root-beer definitely still has room though.

Thanks! That’s a good take on things

So, you are buying the watch to make money, not for the love of, the functionality, fit and purpose of the relative model?

GMT vs Chronograph?
Water resistance?
Date vs no date?

Oh sorry, my thinking is very 2008'ish.
Rolex is about a quick buck now.

The close comparison for me is because both are half gold models, standing equally to my collection.

But nevertheless, to your point, one has to look at value these days since you are paying grey market prices. If the daytona is a better choice and I get a root beer, somewhere along the line it'll be hard for me to switch if i regret my purchase. If its the reverse, at least I can switch around without losing money.

If I get allocated either at retail, I won't even compare, I will just happily wear it.

I agree; buy the one you want to wear. If just buying for a portfolio, then leave them to someone who will actually use them to tell time.

Which is more useful? Chrono sub dials or date and GMT complications?

If you like them equally get one now and start saving.

Short term value retention? Wrong forum.

i picked up my CHNR last April. Never in my mind would i think it would go up to $30k now on secondary market, when i paid $16 at the AD. Will i cash out, probably not anytime soon. But good to know its almost double the price i paid. Guess there is no love for the SkyDweller TT rocketing up in price anywhere near the CHNR.

I decided to go with the daytona because its cheaper now. The Root Beer is trading over 42k SGD in Singapore. :(
