Leica Watch, Really?
Without getting into the watch itself, do we like the idea of Leica making a watch? I love Leica but I like watchmakers making watches and camera makers making cameras. Am i dead wrong?

I don't mind them doing it - I just find the design rather bland and unoriginal. Hard pass.

It's been an ongoing project for years. Interesting details, wish they did a bit more 'pizzaz' with the movement as seen through the back tho.

I admire Leica cameras. Always wanted one. As a photography buff, I think that cameras are going kaput as cellphone cameras continue to improve.
We have a Shun knife. They used to make Samurai swords till that industry declined. Not sure that watches are any less anachronistic than cameras, though. I once called my wife. I said I was on my way home, just had to stop at the bank and post office. She said I was the last person going to those places. |

I don't mind it at all, I think this one reminds me very much of IWC Pilots watch though. I absolutely love the IWC 3717.

The styling does nothing for me, but I welcome their entry to the field.

I think it’s a brilliant extension and it’s actually not the first camera lens maker foray.
I had a Nikon watch, albeit made by Seiko private label, years ago. I’d buy one of these but not if it’s Nomos, IWC or Glashutte money. Maybe if it’s Junghans Stowa or Tissot money. Thanks for posting this op. |

Agree it's a bit outside their normal products, yet the early film Leica cameras are quite impressive mechanically. So I kinda see the lateral move. Imho the dial and crown/pushers are great. Kudos to the visual stylist. Yet they missed the opportunity to bring the Leica camera theme into the movement / decoration to complete the package. jmho

Reminds me of when Mont Blanc started making watches, and that turned out pretty well actually.
But… 10K?! F that. |

Well they've stopped making fully mechanical cameras (they're all digital now), so now they're making fully mechanical watches. As for the price of $10k, note that the newly-announced Leica M11 camera is $9k *without* a lens.

I will forever have an association between Leica and Rolex in my own mind because my first Rolex (1962 black OP) and my first Leica (M2) were both inherited from my uncle who bought them new in West Berlin in 1962 when he traveled there one summer as a college student. That said, if I'm spending $10k on a watch, it's far more likely to be on a Rolex than on a Leica. If I was going to hand that cash over to Leica, it would be for the M11.

No way. I imagine it's like the Leica phone which is also in the same category on the site - outsourced product with a massive premium after they slapped a Leica logo on it.

New generation Leica cameras keep time, as well as time stamp digital image files.
What we really need is a Rolex watch that takes pictures. Like a spy camera. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I must admit, the GMT function is really well done and still includes date, power reserve, day/night indication…intriguing. 10k…ouch.

New Leica watches!
It seems they are officially launched now and their high end model L2 is gonna be around 14000. What? What are they thinking?

I like the design and the movement looks great as well.
But I am a Leica fan so slightly biased.

Thought this was the Rolex/Tudor watch discussion forum only, and not the Leica watch forum.

Too much money for a watch with no history or watch brand credibility. Hard pass.
