How’s the Rolex shortage in your country?

Here in Brazil, the situation is quite absurd. The Rolex Boutiques are completely empty, displaying one or two used watches, loaned from customers (!!!).

The sales representatives only give evasive and unwilling answers, blaming a worldwide shortage of Rolex watches, despite production increases. No more information whatsoever.

Frankly speaking, I never saw such a thing. The Omega Boutique is only a few steps away and it’s LOADED.

In Turkey boutiques are full of exhibition only pieces. I've been waiting for an Explorer I for 11 months now. It's been almost 4 months since the store manager told me I'm on top of the list too... When I called, he claimed there hasn't been any delivery from Rolex for some time. I wonder how they make a living without selling anthing (!)

It's been like this in most countries for quite some time now. Shortage is simply due to unprecedented demand from most accounts, it's probably been a few years since I've seen any inventory in any of the AD's I've visited in Canada and the US.

It's a famine! Enthusiasts here in the USA are starving!!! I saw one without a new Rolex for so long, he nearly starved to death (was 'saved' by an Omega Speedmaster). There's rumors a few died in the UK waiting.

Getting bleak, and serious. Hope you survive my friend.

My AD told me they are getting more Rolex watches than ever, but that the Rolex watches they do get are all going to their VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVIP customers.

LOL here, pal!

Jokes apart, I wonder how the AD pays the very expensive rent and the employees without merchandise to sell.

They are selling more than ever! My AD says double pre covid. They just can’t accommodate but ViP’s we’re buying before hype, and demand went up. Do they have plenty $$$, but to tell 100+ time a day that there not enough Rokex for demand….

You’re right…

There is no shortage. As many being shipped as always now.

My AD has a full case of them. Not for sale of course, but you’re allowed to drool on the display case.

But we DO have a glut of people wanting to buy them…

Pre-Rolex shortage, apart from the ss models, there was always a wealth of PM models sitting in the cases looking pretty for ages.
Even those models are being snapped up nowadays before it reaches the display case.

They are definitely not doing poorly, i assure you.

A few months ago, they still had a reasonable stock of Rolesor DJs, DDs, some OPs and Rolesor/PM Pros, not to mention the women’s watches. Now everything is gone.

There is no shortage in the UK. It's a misnomer. There is certainly more demand than ever, but shortage implies a cut in production/supply. When my CHNR turned up, shortly before UK lockdown #1, there were a couple buying TT his and hers DJs with jewels on them, as well as me picking up my GMT.

On my way out I walked past a SA being berated by a tourist who had walked in wanting a SS Daytona and was rather aggravated when informed they didn't have one to sell him. Three happy customers walked out, having just given the AD in excess of £35k, possibly over £40k. Not bad for an hour's work. They all walked past another non customer moaning about how the shortage was killing Rolex, would eventually kill the AD, and why did they even bother opening?

It's all about perspective. My AD usually gets two or three blue SS Sky Dwellers a year. The supply is regular, the numbers are consistent over a 12 month period. Rolex has not run out of parts or cut supply. The impression that there is some kind of shortage is created by the 50 people a month who enquire about buying one who are unsuccessful.

Two year waitlist for undesirable models like Datejust here in New York.

10 years for the good stuff, but we both know 10 years just means F off.

There is no supply shortage, the ADs are just repeat selling to the same few customers. They're not interested in new customers

They sell every watch that arrives with one phone call to the individual who is front of the ADs mind. if you've been told they haven't got one in, that means they haven't got one in that wasn't already allocated to someone else, that's all.

Its not a lack of supply that's the problem its the over abundance of customers

No shortage at all. I can buy each model multiple times in my country, only not from AD’s. The other guys have unlimited stock

Empty shelves mean they are selling all their inventory before they even get it. Any dealer that tells you they are not receiving any watches to sell is lying.

Whilst potential sports watch customers are being bribed into buying Datejusts of every size I can’t believe the shortage is a surprise to anyone.

There is no Rolex shortage per se just super high demand. A recent post here described how someone had to buy 4-5 other watches to be considered for a sub. This is in Canada (GTA). Unless you already have a relationship with an AD or are a big spender it’s gonna be very difficult to get anything here

In the UK there is a shortage of ICUs which in particular is increasing the wait time for new cars and pushing up the value of the used market. The number of people wanting a new car has not increased significantly. There are just less new cars available. This is a shortage, not an increase in demand for a fixed volume of supply.
