Huge % increase in 116500 availability on Chrono

I have been following the 116500 availability on Chrono24. In the last six weeks the number is up by around 50%. Why might this be? As of tonight there are 554 available compared to 378 six weeks ago.

IMO it’s due to the pricing. I think people want to cash out where they can.

I guess it has to be either that or an increase in supply from Rolex (unlikely?).
Would be wonderful to see prices cool off a little.

One can always hope. Pricing is bonkers for sure, but we all have something to do with it. We all add to the hype and the algorithm in google. We post pics and hash tags and write crazy posts all over the web. The whole thing is a weird self fulfilling prophecy

This.

Same with 5711. Listings nearly doubled within just a few weeks.

These things are RARE $100k+ to the m00n. Rolex only makes 7 each year!

Imagine how many people grabbed them at retail 10 plus years ago. Those people are laughing. What is pricing of a 5711a on the after market? Is it roughly 220ish USD? That’s almost 10 times retail 10 years ago. Even my house hasn’t doubled that much. I’d be happy to sell one I got at retail for ten times what I paid. If someone offered me 10 times what I paid for my subs, I’m out. No second guessing, a simple syanora Charlie.

If you have ever tried to sell used on Chrono, their algorithm suggests a price which they really emphasise. Would be interesting to see how that changes compared to availability.

Never sold anything on chrono. The whole market of watches is interesting. I guess we will all see what happens in the months to come.

I've noticed this every time there is a significant grey market price bump. People who bought in low look to cash out at the new price, very similar to what you see with stocks. Eventually the inventory will be bought up and a new price will be set in short order. Rinse and repeat.

You need to select the Filter tab and go to Condition & Delivery Contents.

That's how you select out for box and papers as well.

Available now shows who actually has a watch, the rest will simply contact someone else to get you one.

These extra people trying to cash in as middlemen account for increased overall listings.

The more middlemen = the more in demand a watch is.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl whose AD said
the ceramic Daytona is being discontinued..

I guess it's pretty serious.

A lot of people are probably extremely tempted to cash out assuming we are at the top! But history will tell us and has shown everyone that cashed out when they were in the 20s 30s 40s- you can’t time the market!

I really hope we are at the top and pricing can finally begin to slow down and even fall a bit.

Is this fake news, wishful thinking, or another anti-Daytona thread??

There are 71 white SS Daytonas on C24 in the USA right now. Those numbers are about spot on as they were in Dec 2021. There is no change I have seen other than they are higher $$$ and I have been following white SS Daytona’s the last 12 months. There was 102 in the USA in October of 2021.

Pretty clear in the USA. Notice the basic filtering including all models even ones without a full set. That’s 71 total.

It's not the stock market. Makes you think people are worried about their investments... CRASH or TO THE MOON... All I know is we need to stock up on Jacob and Co and Hubloot because they might be discontinuing selling them at deep deep deep discounts.

All I see in that picture is “Professional Dealer” over and over.

Perhaps the Professional Dealers have all the Pandas and are ready to wheel and deal.

I would be ecstatic if the watch market crashed and all of the speculators got burned holding merchandise they can't afford. ADs would have inventory again, and true collectors would have proper access. I believe the pendulum has swung too far and when it corrects, it will swing too far the other way. In what universe is a mass produced stainless steel watch worth >3.5x MSRP?

Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful.

Who knows what will happen. All I can say is that this fomo for people is real. I agree that a mass watch going for so much over retail is crazy, but there are a lot of crazy and stupid people in this world. Money so cheap to borrow right now and some people just have loads of cash to burn

It’s not just Rolex but AP and PP. When has Rolex ever taken a serious depreciation dump over the last 40 years?? Worst case scenario is you might see a slight market correction.
There are lots of luxury items mass produced that trade way above their msrp. It’s a new luxury playing field in this economy that seems to be touching even more common items besides luxury watches.

This is important. Chrono 24 is notorious for listings where they don’t even have the watch.
Another interesting aside. In New York’s Diamond District, if you walked into a grey dealer and asked for a white ceramic, if they didn’t have one they would get on the phone and have one within minutes.

Less than 10 years ago, you could get a discount to MSRP on Rolex and today many models are trading for multiples of MSRP. That is not sustainable IMO.
