Panda purchase question

Would I be insane to pay $50k for a Daytona panda ? I’ve been thinking about it since they were $18k.

Do you have the funds?

Do you want the watch?

Is it to wear and enjoy?

If the answer is yes to all 3 then buy it

Five years from now you'll be asking if you should buy one at $100k.

Ain’t that the truth. When everyone was losing their mind for paying $25k for a white SS Daytona, including me. Huge mistake not buying one then as it ended up costing me more in the end. The SS Daytona bus never stops so jump on before it leaves you behind.

Or look at it another way: if you buy a new car for $50k now or a SS Daytona, in four years the SS Daytona is going to be worth a lot more money than the car regardless what the economy does.

If it is disposable cash go for it. If you are selling something you really don't want to .. or God forbid financing it then no..no.. no just forget it

It would be so much easier to swallow if it wasn’t a current model that some lucky guys get to buy for $14k..

How much did they have to swallow to get 1 for 14k? Asking for a friend…

The price will keep going up forever so if you have the funds and want one, buy it now. The only way you will lose money is by selling immediately and eating the dealer margin.

Fun fact: I literally know more people that has won the lottery than have purchased a SS Daytona (either color) from a AD.

I'm in the same position, that was me when it was 18K, wishful thinking I would get the call from AD, although they did call me for the Pepsi, so I'm happy

Im thinking of trading my BLNR and 116520 black dial Daytona, for the ceramic panda
any thoughts?

Panda purchase question

Given that a massive run up occurred in the first few weeks of the new year I'd wait. Even a 10% correction to December would be a decent savings.

Unless I had a lot more disposable funds, for me, it would be insane to buy that watch at that price. Will it hold its value and in time rise? Yes. So you could likely cash out and not lose any money if you keep it “long enough”.

I just don’t see paying that much when you could get something way nicer for that kind of money.

Bad idea. IMO it lacks the luster of your black Daytona. It's very matte white and has a lot of glare. Very photogenic though. Of the 3 Daytonas I've owned white was the least stunning in person. But when I see it in pics it tugs at the heart strings for sure.

I think buying a Daytona at any price is a bad idea.

If you have the cash, use it to start a relationship with an AD. From what I've been led to believe, once you've hit the $100k mark in purchases, you get access to the hard to get pics. This one purchase would, get you half way there. I'd go to an AD that sells preowned watches This way you can get some bang for your buck. Just my .02

I am always an advocate for a Daytona, but I can not in good conscious advise buying at that price. Just not worth it for steel. Look at white gold if you want a quality piece that is worth the money.

Panda purchase question

Great advice here from Lt. I got out of my grey market purchased pieces and took that cash to the AD. Buying PM opened doors for sure.

I’m way over the $100k mark with my AD and they don’t show me much love..

If you want it and have the funds than why not? or try going to an AD that sells jewelery as well as Rolex and try and spend 35K on stuff you want and ask if that will help you get the Panda at MSRP.

That’s a fair point Mike and while I agree that “should” be the case sadly for some it isn’t or maybe my particular relationship isn’t as good it should be

I won’t feel comfortable paying 50k+ for a 14k watch. But you got it like that, props to you!
