Rolex Corporate Order

Curious if others are hearing the same, my company has been buying watches every year for the past 10 years to celebrate our employees 10 year anniversary (50 watches over time) this year our order was cancelled saying they wont honor it. What have others heard/seen? Odd way of treating loyal customers!!

I assume your company was ordering these watches through a local dealer versus Rolex direct. Considering the current state of the Rolex market, not at all surprising. The worldwide demand is sky high and Rolex simply cannot keep up with it.

On a sidenote, you must work for a wonderful company. What model Rolex would they typically give an employee for an anniversary?

.

In my previous company , an American company (from Sillicon Valley, CA) we were offered a SS DJ after 15 years, a TT DJ after 20 years and a YG DD after 25 years ...

Unfortunately I lived this company after only 9 years ...

nb: for 5 and 10 years it was a set of 2 silver then 3 gold pens from the Cross company.

Wow, that sounds like a great company. Little perks like that go a long way with employees.

I was with a company for 19 years and got nothing more than a pat on the back! They apparently used to give employees 5 days extra holiday (for the anniversary year only) for 15 years service but that was phased out by the time I reached it.

You mentioned this in the other thread.

Can you name the ADs? That would be useful information.

This practice was common in Medical Device/Imaging sales companies in the past. I worked for a few that would hand out Sub's to the top sales folks at the national meetings. Motivated a lot of sales guys as they did not have to explain the purchase to the warden at home. Typically they handed out 10-15 watches a year, always a Sub. Not doing it anymore as far as I know.

Too much demand now to honour such an order

Reach out to Bob’s / DavidSW and I’m sure they’ll cut a deal on a multiple watch purchase. The owner of the company I work with ordered through DavidSW and had them engraved etc and was great to deal with. He ordered Three White face explorer 2’s. FWIW

The last 35 years we've given our sales team members a Submariner when they reached $1,000,000 in annual sales. We had to stop this year because we can no longer source the watches at retail from any AD's in the area.

We now give them the option of a cruise or RV vacation. Most of the past recipients sold their Submariners anyway.

Imagine a company going to a grey dealer for multiple watch purchase!? Pretty much the real world scenario for anyone who wants to get their hands on a Rolex! It is what it is nowadays

Doesn’t have the same wow factor unless you know about watches. Rolex is a Trophy and Omega’s are just a watch.

Frankly, for those who don’t know watches any of this is a total waste. And as nice of a gesture as it is, reading through this thread just confirms how tacky a lot of this really is and how this all plays to the brand name, throwing money around as a power play, and mimicking celebrity “culture”.
Somebody said companies hand out Royal Oaks? The vast majority of people don’t know what that is. And it seems even a lot of self declared watch people don’t know what could’ve actually been special about it before the rappers and Hollyweird took it over. It’s really an ugly watch after all.
I’m out. Cruise or RV? I wouldn’t be caught dead doing that. Give me a cash bonus and I’ll buy my own Omega (by the way exactly what I did last year with some of my incentive bonus).

Which is 99% of all people. For the rest, to receive a Rolex for an accomplishment, is in fact exactly as someone said, a "trophy"...something that those 99% WILL recognize. And after all, isn't that the purpose of a trophy? Something received for a high accomplishment, that will scream to the world "hey, look what I did!". Well....at least that's what a trophy USED to be...now, it just means you chose to participate. But that's another thread...

Why? When it comes to the current lineup I’d prefer many of the Omega offerings over any of the current Rolex models. I think it’s a good suggestion and arguably, Omega makes better watches at this point than Rolex.

To the OP and as a fellow Bostonian: I’d be curious if this is through one of the local stores that carry Rolex officially (I can’t say anything positive about those) or through somewhere else.

What you say may well be true but imho, its about perception. In the eyes of many witnessed, by the hysteria around Rolex, Rolex is the zenith. Maybe, a move away from watches as a reward?

What is sad is this...

you cant give employees that have been with a company for 20 plus years anything, a watch, parking space, gift cards, etc. Why, because the new hires ( younger generation ) dont feel that is is right, they dont get a parking space or watch or anything. So they get a committee of younger employees and cry and complain and the company feels for them and take those bonuses away or cancel things that give employees...ohh you know....

it happen to my company and its happening everywhere.....

Indeed sometime last year (or maybe the year before, I forget), Rolex did cancel the corporate order program - at least from my experience. Previously, your business used to be able to order bulk or multiple watches through your AD (possibly with approved caseback engraving as noted by another poster), and Rolex would prioritize those orders over normal/standard consumer orders. I know, I did it before with some GMTII's.

Last year when I wanted to order 4 more DJ watches for long term employee recognition (15 years), I initially put in the order but it was then later cancelled. I eventually did source 4 watches, but it took some time and some doing.

To those of you offended by an employee receiving a DJ or GMT for 15 or 20 years of employment...jealous much!?

Worked in a company that gave each employee (above associate level) a Royal Oak. That was a nice surprise.

So now we are mocking companies giving a Rolex for dedication and work ethic to a company? Check. Who is allowed to buy a Rolex? I wonder?

I often forget how other companies do business, what with handing out Rolexes and expense accounts. For 10 years at my company you get a lapel pin and a certificate. At 20 years that steps up to a lucite plaque.

Really though, I'd rather have my annual stock grant and buy my own Rolexes.

Last summer, RUSA canceled a 25 watch corporate order with an engraved case back placed through a large national retailer. RUSA NY previously engraved the case backs with a RUSA approved engraving design on two separate occasions 15 watches in 2015, and 50 watches in 2020. This order was canceled very suddenly, even after payment was made.

That is why Rolex needs to update their tagline. "A Crown for Every Achievement."

Rolex will admit it is impossible to time the delivery of a Rolex watch with an achievement.
