Which Rolex equivalent of the JLC Reverso?

Would it be the OP or maybe Explorer? Or should it be the Sub?

Why do you want to make that connection?

In my opinion, Cellini is the closest one.

The JLC Reverso has no equals. I can't imagine any watch company to build a watch for polo players and be successful. They'd have to find another niche sport to solve a problem for. In that sense the YM is closest because of its special function for sailing.

OP is a good call

Lots of people seem to think it's a dress watch!

Learn something new every day - thanks to the forum! Rolex Prince - when was this made? I also have a Reverso and it is one of my favorites but do not find enough situations to wear it. Absolutely love this watch! This photo does not do it justice. Between the guilloche (sp?) and sub dial this thing really pops in real life - and for the price cannot be beat!

Reverso is an icon. For Rolex, in the same price range, it would be DJ or Submariner.

I’d say OP in terms of origins, DJ in terms of icon-ism. OP and Reverso were both purpose-built to accommodate the physical demands of highbrow activities not accommodated by other watches of the era. As a result, they became popular recognitions of those achievements. In the case of Rolex, DJ eventually supplanted the OP as “the” Rolex, but for this purpose they’re essentially equivalent.

Sub came along later and built on what the OP started. That’s why the latter, along with the Reverso, stand out as the “originals” (in this analogy at least).

Nice. Is it gold? What year?

When you say the modern ones are pretenders, can you elaborate. Not sure I follow. Is there something special the vintage ones do that the modern ones don't?

Just because Rolex has watches that are similar in shape does not mean they are even remotely close to Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Which Rolex equivalent of the JLC Reverso?

From Patek CEO:

“And then there are plenty of other watches that I like, but not necessarily the brand – it doesn't mean I like all their other ones. For example, I always liked the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. I wish I could have made one. We have one in the museum, a Patek Reverso. I was very tempted to do my own Reverso, but I don't think it's fair – this is Jaeger's style, and that's how it is. I have to accept it.”

Its silver around 1938-40 date-wise well the vintage Prince were the first so the modern day are just pretenders.
