Availability - 41mm Submariner vs 41mm Submariner Date
What is the groups opinion on the availability of these two references. I have been working with my AD and so far have gotten two nice watches that I had been interested in (214270 & 126603) . I now hope to get a Submariner 124060 and I am supposed to be close to getting one. However, I wonder if I should just ask them for first available between the Submariner and the Submariner Date. It seems the "no date" version is harder to come by.

Don't get why people come on here asking about availability. No one working in the stores is posting the levels of stock on here so why bother?

My point really relates to which one is manufactured in greater quantities. Are they manufacturing them equally or do they make 2-1 or 3-1 date to no date. I know I can get one, but I am wondering if I should just ask for first available instead of something more specific.

As for what Rolex makes, I am sure they could tell you, just give them a call.

I think if I asked Rolex, it would be met by either a very dry non committed response (blah blah) or laughter, likely the latter. I guess I felt that with as many "incoming" posts we get that there would be a general feel of one vs the other. |

If all the incoming posts were for one model or the other what would that tell you?

From my experience, the no date is easier to come by. I'd ask for whichever one you want more. Don't settle, wait it out. |

Incredible! I am also located in MN and put my name down at both family-owned ADs for the no-date and they gave the exact same response.

I honestly feel like I should also talk to the 2-store AD as well, to maybe improve my chances. This whole market is just ridiculous. I've been stopping into ADs since the '90s and now that I'm finally ready and serious about getting one you can't even get one. Ha ha. That would be great if we both get ours soon. I'm rooting for you! Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk |

Well, that’s the idea of a forum right? If we dont know, just ask. If anyone has opinion or in the know, they can reply (or not) as they wish. Or if they simply just want to share their experience. |

Looks wise highly personal preference. I can for example get a no date with my history pretty easily if ever I wanted an upgrade from the 5 digit watch I have for the sub. But date, they have to do more figuring out how/when to jump the queue for me. I remember when it first came out, basically no VIP’s requested no date, and a handful had requested the date. |

Asking this forum is rather pointless. The only ones who could tell you for sure, and more importantly deliver, is the person you deal with. Go into the store and let them know you would take either a Sub or Sub Date. Good luck.

The Non Date is the classic version and less available these days suddenly.

When I have asked ADs in the past about this they suggest they get more sub dates vs subs in. At the same time there are more people that request the sub date, so that evens out the availability. It really depends on your specific AD and how many people are waiting for either.

The sub date is more practical as a one man's watch and as such it appeals to a wider group of potential buyers.
To meet demand Rolex usually make more Sub dates than ND, however some ADs might find it easier to allocate a ND Sub due to less demand. Having said that, I believe that a Sub ND is a more sought after piece among Rolex purists and watch collectors who own multiple watches. A small search on chrono 24 I was able to find the following 41mm subs which might give an indication: 377 Black Sub date 334 Cermit Sub date 231 Sub ND |

Love the ND for many reasons. From what I was told, the AD receives about half as many ND’s vs Date Subs.

I prefer the Sub in terms of appearance. Just looks right, uncluttered, symmetrical. The Sub Date is probably more practical of the two. Sub is cheaper so if you are torn, save a few buck and give up the date window.

We both appear to be in the same submarine. I told my AD that I would let fate decide the watch I shall wear (first one they offer me) and that I would be so grateful either way. Another heirloom for my daughters. I have VERY good arguments in my mind for owning either one, so the die is cast, so to speak. Good luck to you... look forward to your incoming post!

At least in my area as of a year ago, they were both very hard to get unless you gave the AD a good reason to sell you one or you had an existing financial relationship with them.
They aren't as hard to get as a Daytona, but they also aren't easy to get. If they were, they would not have the markup they do in the secondary market. However, there is a ton of YMMV here as some people have a lot of luck and get them rapidly and others wait for years. I ultimately bought my Sub used. |

Waiting for a Sub ND here. No call yet since the ask a few months back, but AD indicated hope within 6 months. Said the Sub ND was the easier..but also the one I prefer.

Availability - 41mm Submariner vs 41mm Submariner Date
I recently acquired the ND and was offered the Date version. I decided to go for the 124060 because of the history and it’s the only sub you can get without the cyclops. If this was my only watch, I would’ve gotten the 126610LN for sure. But like many mentioned here, Rolex produces way more dates than ND, but the demand for each one pretty much balances out.
No one here can tell you which one is “easier” to get nor most SA. I think it all depends on luck tbh. If a whale requests a ND or Date and you are “next” they will skip the line… so life is sometimes about being at the right place at the right time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Take whatever comes first. Sub is faster to set after it stops and has a balanced dial you can't got wrong either way.

Check them out in person and commit to that one. Should help to expedite the watch to you.

Surely the AD should be able to tell you ,unless you are the only one aware of the working relationship .
The forum can tell you what ? They are scarce . Which one ? Personal preference I have both ,each has its own charm . There is no clear answer. |

I’m no expert, but from what I can see, the cheaper RRP it is, the harder to get (hence no datenis has less availability). Then again it’s only based on my very little experience compared to others here :) Personal preference, i like no date better. |

The local boutique here indicated a Sub D is harder to get. I started with a date but it is gone and I now have a Sub. One of the benefits of owning a number of watches with a date complication is the a ability to have a few with no date.

Either way, it will be a couple of years before you get one...
