Wearing vintage watch on vacation?

My 16013 is "vintage", it's from 1981. I generally wear it pretty carefully mostly around the house as it's also a family heirloom.

Taking a family trip to Disneyland soon. Normally I'd wear one of my other watches, but my parents are joining us and I thought it would be cool for me to wear the 16013 as that's what my dad wore during our trips when I was a kid.

Wondering if it would be fine to wear it. Not at all worried about theft in that environment, moreso damage/loss. For some reason these older clasps never feel super secure to me but I may just be paranoid.

Do you guys wear your vintage watches on vacation?

Your Dad wore it and it made it to you. If you are fortunate enough to have heirs then you can wear it and give them the same opportunity later in life!

Oh and insure it so if the worst happens you at least are not out monetarily albeit you will be out the personal heirloom importance.

Wear and enjoy!

I think you should be fine. No matter if wearing a Rolex or not, always keep vigilant for pick pockets and criminal opportunist in the area outside of Disney.
Is it a two tone model with bracelet?
I wear my 1601 often, it's a part of my rotation. Mine is rose gold and steel, so the bracelet can be eye catching. To down play it, i usually wear a leather strap with it instead.

Enjoy the trip!

Wore a 5513 for 5 years. Day in. Day out. Swimming. You name it. Just made sure the seals were good.

I think your dad would get a kick out of it.

Yea, TT with a bracelet. Not too worried about theft even in the area around there as there always seems to be a ton of people and police as well.

Plus the wristwatch eye candy I've been seeing on past trips to Disneyland are amazing. There's a better watch to steal right down the street

The area is typically safe day and evenings in the area outside if Disneyland. Haven't been out there in a few years. However, I've heard crime has risen a bit in Anaheim and other areas, but i still think you will be fine in that area.

If caught in a pinch, point to the guy wearing the Daytona

Yes, you're probably paranoid. The clasps are fine.

I wear vintage Rolex’s on regular basis on their 60’s and 70’s bracelets day and night. Use them on vacation in ocean, sauna, skiing etc.

As a precaution. Make sure that the spring bar is in good condition and the correct one for both the watch and bracelet. Also check the seals that the watch is waterproof if you a will be using the watch in environments where there are risk for moisture or water damage.

Enjoy the watch.

These older clasp are well up to the Disneyland task.
Never heard about it or seen one fail.

Wear it worry free

I wear my 1989 5513 and it's been superb.

Worth getting it pressure tested by your watchmaker if you plan to swim.

Can’t speak to vintage as I don’t own one, but I go to Disney twice a year and as for wearing a nice watch at Disneyland I’ve seen some AP’s, Patek’s and even a Richard Mille so I wouldn’t worry about it getting stolen. As for damaged just be mindful when getting on and off rides (pinch points, turnstiles, etc) and you should be good. I think it’s well worth the small risks to share that with your Dad!

Myself regularly wear some of my vintage Rolex and Tudor from the 1920s up to 1940s even some from the 1980s.All watches are meant to be worn as there only function is to tell the time on the wrist nothing more.

Wearing vintage watch on vacation?

I’ve worn a much older 1601 diving with giants at -24m.

I do get all my watches pressure tested before vacations.

It’s up to your comfort level. The watch itself as long is well maintained will outlive you even in a dangerous environment. Especially Disney Land...

Disneyland sounds dangerous Peter but sometimes you just have to grin and bear it?
