Help me please.

Got a call from AD. I want a WG 228239 DD with black dial. He called me and let me know he just got one in with a meteorite dial. I can get it at msrp plus tax.

Knowing full well what can be done here, what would you do? I’m torn bw a smart money business decision vs a smart relationship business decision.

GO!

I wouldn't buy it. I've been in a similar situation though not at such a high price point, and passed. It hasn't done me any harm getting the models I actually want at MSRP.

What should you do? Anything you like. You don't need our permission.

Yes, flip it!!! I understand what’s what you mean by “smart business decision”. The AD is never going to find out…

The watches you have, even if all bought from that AD, would doubtfully get you a "hot" watch. He's probably got no one else and that would give me pause if you plan to resell it. Day dates as profit makers is very recent, I'd check around for offers before you commit that amount...GO!

I’d buy it. You can switch a dial later if you want.

Buy what you like and let someone who loves it where it for the rest of their lives.

Appreciate the constructive responses. I’m torn. I want to do the “right” thing. Though the businessman in me says to capitalize on the opportunity!

buy what you want, not what you don't.
if it doesn't get your pulse racing i'd say don't.

Buy it, unless you’re going to leave it in the box for 3 years.

It’s your money and you are the only one that know what makes you happy.
If it is a watch that you do not want or will not appreciate then don’t buy it.
If you will wear it and potentially keep it, or even resell it, then buy it.
If it’s me I would not have to ask others as I would have already picked it up.

Personally I would buy it and wear it as I think what you are being offered is a stunning looking reference.

But if it doesn't speak to you then it doesn't speak to you.

I have been wearing Rolex for over 35 years and have not ever sold one. The reason, I only buy what I like. I went with the 228239 black stick and love it. The combination of the black dial with the white gold is just perfect, IMHO.
If you really want the black dial, I would pass on the meteorite. I think it works better on the WG GMT, as there is some contrast with the bezel. Good luck either way.

If you value your relationship with your AD I’d pass. How awkward is it when you buy a watch and you never wear it in there. I always make sure I wear all the watches I have bought from them so they see I’m not a flipper. To me a few bucks isn’t worth burning myself or my AD.
