Hodinkee question
As some of you all may have responded to my last thread about whether to actually sell my Milgauss and buy a Sea Dweller or not you all may be aware of some of my search.
Anyways, that puts me in the Market for a SD, I’m looking for a 16600 in particular, and I came across this one. Condition looks decent enough, but a couple things off I wanted to get a second opinion on. https://shop.hodinkee.com/products/r...-10-rol-nq1ckh Dial I’m fairly certain is a service replacement dial being Swiss Made, (could be wrong with late 99 papers) and not just Swiss, but that being said, the indices look a bit funny from the listing photos. Particularly the 12 o’clock. The surround looks too bold IMO. Hodinkee and Crown and Caliber generally have a decent reputation. Anyone have any insight on how well they check out watches as well as individual components for authenticity? Thanks in advance for anyone willing to look and give a second opinion.

You can do better than crown. Like with any of the other amazing top-tier sellers on this forum. I mean, even there photography is ill descript. For example, where are the pictures of the box and papers? Wouldn’t you wanna see that? Can you tell if there’s full links? Are there any high-resolution photographs there? I’d suggest some more digging, I think you’ll find sellers who are more clear and precise and detailed in higher resolution about what you are buying

I’ve looked at a lot of the sellers here as well, but unfortunately not to many 16600s, the majority seemed to be focused on what’s new and instagrammable at the moment. Both C&C and Bobs have a lot of this particular reference, so it just kind of left me looking towards them. I’ve bought from Bobs twice, but like you mentioned they aren’t bad but undoubtedly a lot to be desired. Especially as every watch at Bobs particularly is listed as excellent without any further description or a representative that can even advise on it. I see a lot of that on C&C as well which I don’t like but at least they are a bit more descriptive than Bobs. Just not sure how in depth their authentication checks are and this dial in particular looks a bit off. I honestly don’t mind a service replacement as long as it’s authentic which I’m not sure about on this one.

Kind of relating to my comments about the large online resellers. It’s really hard to tell with the way they present them in a light box and no further pictures to make out much detail. Hopefully I can get my Milgauss sold soon then it will make it much easier rather than looking at places to potentially trade.
