Lost my AD in town

I live in a medium sized city in central NY. We recently lost our AD here and I am strategizing what to do next. The closest AD is in Albany or Saratoga Springs. I am leaning on sparking a relationship with Saratoga. What is the best course of action? Email? Phone call? Then maybe a trip out there?

I'd try calling and explaining the situation.

This ^^^^ but also include in your call narrative the fact that you was a regular client of the closed AD. Get a feel for each AD on that call and make your choice

100%. make an appointment to go in person. Explain that you lost your AD and that you would like to be a customer into the future.

I feel your pain. Same here last year but we still have two ADs. Imo, nothing takes the place of an in person contact. I met new SAs at both stores and struck up conversations about losing the equity of a long term relationship with the now closed AD. So far this contact and subsequent visits has resulted in invites to a few in store watch events plus a new 41mm LV Submariner!

Welcome to the club, its happened in many cities. And from my experience, other AD's do not care. Time to start over again......

Less big money to compete with in Albany I think.

In my very limited experience, Frank Adams is good to deal with

Just drop in on the closest Rolex dealers to you and strike up a conversation and see which clicks best with you. They are in the business to sell watches.

That’s brutal and it’s happening a lot. Rolex is downsizing a lot of their dealer networks the last 3 years.
I too am in a rural section of the state without any close AD’s. The closest AD I do have is so small and really never had much to begin with even in the best of times. I would not be shocked if they get axed as well.
Traveling to other AD’s is what I did also establish long time relationships with some of our Trusted Sellers.

Are you talking about Kranich's? They've been good to me, in my experience. The State College location did lose their status, but the Altoona location has picked up the slack for me.

Hard to believe the money from PSU main campus can’t sustain a Rolex AD?? Philly is really the place to go for me now if I need AD assistance. I have some AD contacts in Florida as well.

From what the owner told me, it wasn't the money issue. Rolex didn't see the need to have Altoona and a State College location when they were 30 minutes apart from each other.

Rolex doesn't understand how different the Altoona market compared to the State College market is, haha.

They are a good batch though, they've always gotten me what I asked and been up front about what they couldn't get me.

Example: I asked for a Blue SkyD, they told me no but did tell me that they can get me a black or white dial within a year.

Isn’t that the truth. Happy Valley is practically a international city with big money from all over the world.

There's an AD in the Buffalo area, if you're willing to travel. Might as well cast a wide net.

Same situation for me. I’ve been stopping in to explain the situation to the closest ADs, which are 2+ hours away. A couple in particular have been very understanding and I believe I will get what I want in a reasonable timeframe. One actually commented, “yes, your area is in our territory now.”

I definitely recommend going in person. Just explain your situation and build the relationship.

You'll need to visit the new AD for sure. This scenario happens when an old AD closes or when you move to a new town.

It really is unfortunate to lose your favorite AD, especially these days. Any 'relationship' you may have had is now flushed down the drain.

Decide for yourself how much you're willing to spend at the new one. I've already been stuck in this rat wheel for 5 years trying to gain a foothold at my 'new' ADs and it's been a waste of time. Hereafter I'll take the dollars spent at the AD and allocate to a grey purchase instead.

amh, don’t give up the ship. With this current economy the AD lists will shrink pretty fast. Personally, I would not pay inflated and gouged prices in the grey market.

One additional note,I have a friend in the area I’m now targeting. He is a Rolex guy and texted his SA to introduce me. If that’s an option for you, it could pay dividends. Time will tell for me

You go to both. It's really going to come down to the SA and if you click. Perhaps you should try talk to the manager on the phone some how and see if you can get the right SA for you.
