Do you miss the date?

All my Rolex have always had the cyclops with date. I may add a non-date Rolex. It may seem silly, but I don't know if I'll get used to it. Has it happened to any of you?

I never miss the date function as I work on a computer. I prefer the clean lines of the watch without it.

Yup, bought a Daytona in addition to my GMT, SD43 & Sub, sold the daytona because i just couldnt cope without it (personal preference ofc).

I have to eat crow a bit, because I used to tease people for wanting a "cleaner" dial without the date function, because the date function is so useful...until I got an Explorer. It's my first Rolex without a date function, and now it's my only, daily watch. Taking my phone out of pocket frequently to tell time drives me crazy, but I find the lower frequency of needing to know the date is perfectly suitable for getting out my phone (or, when applicable, glancing at my laptop.) It also helps me work the old memory muscles a bit more.

It’s convenient when it’s available but not necessary. For me anyway, I understand why some people like it.

I'm in the camp that does not like the cyclops. I do appreciate the date complication and its useful to me but my daytonas don't have dates and it was pretty easy to get used to.

Before my DJ41 was stolen, I was contemplating a 124060. The AD registered my interest in both the 124060 and the 126610. When they called me to confirm at some point, I just asked for the 126610 withouta 2nd thought. It came out naturally so I guess I'd miss the date. As I missed the cyclops on the Tudors I've had over the years...

I would never have thought of buying a watch without a date. Then came along my BB58. After that I specifically asked for a Submariner. I love the simplicity and my next watch will definitely be no date as well.

I think the date / no date is really just a matter of preference. I actually prefer the date and cyclops. I tend to gravitate towards my sub with cyclops WAY more than my Sea Dweller with date and no cyclops.

Same here. I guess it’s similar to driving a fast sports car but people rarely push the performance (unless they take it to a track).

It's not a silly question.

When I got my previous Panerai 275, was concerned about not having a date.
Was surprised how as an only watch at the time, was occasionally inconvenient not to have a date, but I adjusted adequately.

However, when I later switched to primarily wearing a watch with a date, had a hard time rotating in the 275 because the lack of a date feature.

Then later got another Panerai (317) with the same movement, and as part of a rotation (pic below), has been OK without a date, but not sure I could wear it full-time.

It's just so convenient to look down at a watch and see the date.

I´ve never had a Rolex with the cyclops, but I'm sure you'll get used to a no-date Rolex. I just note the date after breakfast and remember it for the rest of the day. I'm a bit split on the cyclops...I don't like it on any Sub, that's why I chose a 14060 way back in the day. But I do like the cyclops on the Datejust and Day Date models. Go figure...!! Good luck in finding a no-date Rolex!

Swings and roundabouts. If I only had one watch I would want a date but there is something about an uncomplicated watch that simply tells the time.

I actually prefer the uninterrupted crystal without the date window. But I don't mind it when it's there either. I guess just personal preference though and depending on what looks good to your eye. To answer the question though, no I don't mind not having a date on there.

If you are used to glancing at your wrist for the date, then yes you will “miss” it.

That said, it’s not going to ruin your day or anything. You’ll get used to it.

I wear watches with and without dates, not a deal breaker!

I wear a DJ to the office and the date is nice for signing paperwork and checking the day. I like a no date for The Weeknd or vacation though where I don’t care and don’t want to be reminded of the date.

I also think some watches look so much better without the date. Typically dials that emphasize simplicity or symmetry look better to me without the date. However, I like the DJ dial far more than the OP so thats not always the case.

When I wrote checks, centuries ago, the date was very handy.

Now I rarely use or look at it.

That's so true...and it's hilarious I've gone from a bunch of watches with a date to now a single Explorer without the date. I'm totally backwards.

I guess the good thing about a single watch with no date is that, if it runs well, you may not need to unscrew the crown every couple of months.

I really date and prefer a date on the watch, I check it a lot throughout the day.

I do find myself checking the date on a no date watch sometimes I can only make the exception for these two in my collection:





I’ve also come to realise my tastes or preferences change over time so my opinions and post here are almost worthless and become contradictory to myself over time anyway



This one never fails for me the sd43 could quite easily be the best model ever made by Rolex for me pound for pound.
