I don’t know if you’ll find this amusing or disturbing.

I went in to have my 16610 LV serviced. Where I live because of covid you no longer can go to the RSC directly. You have to go to an authorized dealer.

So I did.

The usual 3 smaller Datejust and a blinged out Day Date on display. Nothing at all in the windows.

Yet there were 7 or 8 customers in there.

So I ask the service guy “Do you have something desirable in here in the back?” “Why are all these people in here for nothing?”

His response : “Timing.” “They come in daily some of them 3 times a day everyday.” “Opening, midday and before closing hoping to be right here when a shipment arrives.”

Fug that.

Pathetic. Imagine your life being so sad that it revolves around planning multiple daily trips to an AD to beg to be allowed to spend your money.

A desirable Rolex model must seem like such a far out unrealistic possibility that now any model Rolex they can get will be purchased and considered the end of their Rolex journey.

Obsession. Perhaps this kind of mindset is susceptible to worse...

“Get a life” was my first thought as well but then there are those that will camp out for concert tickets or stand in line for days for the latest game system. The “sacrifice” to save money or giving up time has become a badge of honor. Todays culture has many believing this “experience” is normal.

Okay this is both disturbing and funny.
It's really sad though that they go through that just to spend their money on something they love.

We all have things in our lives people may look upon and scorn, chatting to people on a forum about watches 99.9% we don’t know or will never meet and we congratulate them for buying a watch, or show photos of a watch next to a drink
But hey-ho each to their own ..
My good pal is a plane spotter, knows every intricate detail about each plane he sees - I like people with niche elements to their characters and differences, boring world if we all were the same ..

I’m off to my AD for the 5th time today to beg for a Batman ..

Trying to figure out how a person with a steady and demanding job could hang out at an AD three times a day.

If they are wealthy enough enough not to have to work, trying to figure out how empty their lives must be if they have noting better to do.

Sad.

There are lists in Japan. Tokyo at least. You just have to be lucky or clever or high roller to get on them.

I see this in Dubai at the swatch shop. Groups of people waiting for a shipment of moon watches to arrive. They are there everyday as per the person working in the shop.

Sounds like trying to time the market via sneaker network.

I like fresh shrimp but don’t visit the docks hoping a shrimp boat is arriving.

Maybe those folks are “runners” - that is, people who get a fee from secondary dealers to fish for Rolexes at ADs?
