Got the call: Turn Down Tudor Black Bay Pro?

Quick question: Just received a call (voicemail) from an AD with whom I have no purchase history and was offered the Tudor Black Bay Pro.

I've been there several times for the BLRO (which after 4 years of pointless waiting, I bought from/traded with a grey dealer). Last time I went there was about 3 months ago, where I expressed interest for a Tudor Black Bay Pro and a OP Tiffany Dial 31mm for my wife's milestone birthday next year.

In the meantime, we decided to do a remodel project in our house which just came to an end and for which I wrote a big check. The funds for watches/non-essentials are pretty much drained at this point, which is why I am leaning towards declining the offer.

I'd like to have the Tudor but I think now is not the right time. With the watch market cooled off, the economy/recession on the horizon, and the fact that it is not a Rolex and can be easily bought online at basically retail + tax, I don't see a good reason to buy other than creating a purchase history with the AD.

Options are:

A: Stop thinking so much and buy it. Maybe it gets me closer to the OP for my wife? She is a very modest person and would never get herself one. I thought it would be a nice gift for her milestone birthday in about 1 year.

B: Call and turn it down, being honest about the reason.

C: Do nothing.

What would you do?

I’d turn it down and be honest. Don’t stretch your finances for a watch.

I would personally decline and tell them that. No need to explain anything.

I like option B. I think based on what you mentioned about your finances, waiting would be reasonable and also letting ad know you still have interest in the watch for your wife.

B for sure. Tudors are not super easy to get, but they are certainly not hard to get either.

If it's not the right time, it's not the right time.

Turn down the watch.

Whether its a watch or any luxury item. Timing is everything. If it isn't the best, then you shouldn't feel any pressure to commit to it. It's a nice to have, but not a must.

The Black Bay Pro is a popular watch but I would say it's more so because its a new release. Give it a year or so and it will be readily available like most Tudors (and especially with this projected market). Get the watch then.

If you can’t afford it you know the answer.

Watches are like house sales/purchases, for example, and fate plays its own part I feel. If you can’t buy today, hold and buy another day.

I absolutely love the pro. It’s excellent…but it’s also not what you want. Option B is best. Get what you want man.

Decline the offer, I think now it's not the right time, if you must own it then you would plan for other better time.

The fact that you hesitated about buying this watch right now should be a clear answer. The joy isn't the same unless it's a no-brainer for these expensive luxury items.

Maybe the remodel wasn't a good decision with a recession around the corner?
Sorry you are stretched that thin.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Remodels & pools have gone up in price over the last few years, at least 2x and sometimes 3x to 4x. Waiting may only make things worse.
