Got a call but not the call

I put my name down at a local AD for a 2022 datejust 41 release (rose gold silver fluted motif). No spend history with this AD. I got a call yesterday that seemed odd. This was only after about 2-3 weeks since putting my name down. Dealer says hi just wanted to call. We don’t have the watch in yet but just wanted to let you know and keep you updated. I thanked the sa for his time and update and reconfirmed my interest. I thought it was pretty odd to get a call after a few weeks to provide an update and with no prior spend history.

I imagine Rolex may implement it as SOP to try and keep the base happy, even while you wait.

I’d be happy with that. At least they’re showing an interest in your business. Normally any mention of Rolex gets a bit of an eye roll.

I think the demand for the DJ has gone down. But that is just better for us collectors.

All I get is a quarterly text. "It's almost Mother's Day! Come look at our wonderful selection of jewelry and Omega watches."

<repeat for next holiday as necessary>

I think keeping lines of communication open is a good thing, and if it’s the AD doing it, it’s likely a great thing!

Sounds like a good SA. Would you mind sharing the AD?

It could well be that the dealer has nobody else in the frame for this particular model and configuration.

You are the target buyer and they seller is simply staying close and keeping the deal alive.

You're number 1 on the waiting list. Hurrah.

They are just filtering out the people who don’t answer. So you’ve made it past round one congrats

This is what I think. It could be a good sign, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too soon. If it happens sooner than later you will be even happier.
The AD IMO is just cleaning up the waitlist and checking who is still around.

I was looking at a particular Bulgari Otto, and the SA took down my number. He called me 2 weeks later to tell me it might be difficult to get the watch any time soon. Keeping in touch is good, but.... one could think of all kinds of scenarios.

Good luck with getting the watch you want.

My SA sent me a follow up email on June 11th. After about a month being in there. I totally thought it was the call/email but they just wanted to say they were still waiting on the watch I wanted. I have continuously emailed them since then every now and then checking in. So they always follow up which is nice.

They get loads of people walking in off the street dropping names down but who aren’t really serious about it, so they’re certainly calling and filtering out those people who don’t answer or care. It does show the AD is actually using the “list” which is a good sign.

I would definitely take that as a positive sign for sure! This confirms that your AD remembers you and has you in mind for the piece that you want.

Much better than my experience with a local AD one time. I went in, chatted with a SA, expressed my interest in a certain piece and they took my info. Checked in again whenever I was in the area and always tried to talk to the same SA. Finally, went in again and the SA that I normally talked to wasn't available, but got to talking to another SA. He tried to go into my account in their database to see what I was put down for, and it turned out I wasn't even in their system! Obviously, at that point there was ZERO chance of me getting a call, as they didn't even have my name and number on hand! Lol.
