Rolex or iwc

Do you have a budget or no?
If you don’t spend the extra few grand and get the Sub. I’m guessing you’re looking at the 16610 or are you looking at the 11 or 12 series? Either way Sub would be my choice over those two.
Oh yeah and welcome to TRF

I find the submariner a bit too boring. Dunno why, don’t even find an explorer boring but the sub doesn’t do it for me. But it’s so subjective.

Ah, that's tough since it's the old school (first?) IWC Aquatimer with the outer bezel, right?
Shortly after I graduated college and had a few bucks in my pocket I had this same debate. The arguement: "everyone has a Rolex submariner" won. So, I bought the IWC (3719 though).
I wore it for two or three years through everything and it was great, but that sub still called me. Eventually I bought the 16610 too, but I think I needed to go through the IWC phase.
Still have it btw. Well, actually I "gave" it to my dad. He loves it... and I miss it, sometimes.

Agree. I’d pick the sub but always get what you want over what others think.

IWC makes great watches and I had their previous generation Ingeneur. However, my personal choice would be the Sub between the 2 choices.

So which one you prefer I suppose. But I would also consider size, thickness, lug to lug etc. now, the sub is not the inspired choice, but most dive watches that iwc included were clearly taking from the sub look. I don’t go for the look, I go for the original. I love seiko, but the dive watches by them that I love are the ones that do not look inspired by the sub, like the tuna, turtle, etc.

The one you'll wear daily and enjoy. If it was me, it'd be the Sub.

Sure we can mention durability and great service, tho the design is sooooo timeless because of exactly what it is for as long as it has been. My first Rolex was a Sub, so i'm heavily biased.

Submariner is great and on my wrist most of the time, but IWC make great watches so not an easy choice. Ask Lewis Hamilton or George Russell what their views on IWC are.

:)

If you can live with the thickness IWC 3536 but only in titanium for me. If too thick, I'd pick IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000.

2 massively different choices- IWC for me, it's more a interesting, less knee jerk choice and a classic, technically adept watch.

You'll have more interesting conversations with nicer people...

a picture for those who think its a sub copy...

but I'd also hunt down the Titanium version over the steel....
